I was having problems with oil leaking from the lower part of the engine. At first the dealership couldnt find it so they put dye in the oil and had me drive it around for a few thousand miles. Went back thismorning and got a call that it was the bed plate leaking. I didn't know there was such a thing but apperently it is a part that is in the lower part of the engine that holds the cam shaft in. They said they will be pulling the engine for this instead of removing the cab.
Wondering a few things... How often does something like this go out? I read most of the topics on here and have never heard of a bed plate going out. Also, would this be the time to put ARP headstuds in aswell? Just wondering if they would be removeing the heads to the engine as part of this process? I assume if they have to remove the heads they would be putting new head gaskets on anyways.?.?..
Just wondering what is all envolved with that part and how major it is? The dealership said it should be ready in a few days....

Here are a couple of pages from the 6.0 bible in the tech folder
Mine has also been diagnosed with a leaking bed plate. It will drip one drop to the ground every few days. I elected NOT to fix it when first diagnosed, as the dealer had a bad situation with one of them they fixed. The engine required replacement after they put it back together and it wouldn't physically turn over (something with the crank shaft not seating properly). This kind of turned me off to the repair, as I figured a drop every few days was no big deal. Since then, I have started parking on the driveway instead of the street, and don't want the oil on my driveway!
Will cost me now the $100 deductible to get it fixed. I think I'll wait till the end of the 5 years to see if anything else is going to need attention.
The bedplate is the lower part of your block. It holds the crankshaft in. It's doubles as a girdle and is what makes the lower end so strong. Most repeat bed plate leaks are from the tech not knowing the proper sealing technique and/or overuse of silicone sealer in the wrong place.
Had mine fixed at 5,000 miles and I am now at 45,000 with no problems. I say do it I couldn't stand having a 50,000 truck leak oil. Its like walking around and having to wear a diaper, its just wrong!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, you were serious? Sorry, it is strong, but it won't hold back the NOS and Water/Meth and bigger injectors and bigger turbo. Anybody want a bedplate that's got a HUGE hole in it? If anyone has one laying around that they're not using, let me know. I kinda need one.

But... from the picts I seen of your origional motor, it looked like you needed more than a bedplate?>?
Does the fact I'm turning the block into a coffee table give you any idea? lol I gotta get all the mods I did for the first one paid off, then I can begin to think about building the second.
I also was told that my bed plate was weeping and could bring it in anytime under warrenty. At 45,000 miles several months ago, I informed Dealer that radiator burped coolant several times over the years such as after climbing severe grades. Not significant but still messy.
They offered to reseal bedplate and replace headgasket at same time. Agreed to use my ARP studs which I quickly ordered. They replaced all associated parts related to other TSBs. Afterwards, I dumped their oil to refill with synthetic and have been happy since. What worked for me is that my Dealer has a very experienced diesel mechanic and they are pleased to do warrenty work.
