Dana 44 ????

Hi I have a 63 f250 4x4 with a dana 44 in the front, while rebuilding the hubs I noticed that there is what looks to be a fill plug on the spindle, am I supposed to put gear lube in it?

Hi,Ford friends, I just joined today and was browsing when I came across your questions about the plugs on your front axles. Yes, you need to keep these knuckles filled with 90-140 gear oil. If your axles are original, the top and bottom ball joints are cone bearings and races. If the these knuckles leak, bearing failure is very quick. I am in the process now of fixing up my old 66 F250 4x4. Anybody tell me where to get a GOOD wiring diagram. thanks

When you rebuilt the hubs were they factory hubs? I just finished mine after looking for parts for a long time. Mine are the heavy duty hub loks, the external mount type. I have a list of all needed part numbers for those hubs if you need them. Yes, you do need to keep those reservoirs filled. I use 85/90W hypoid in mine. If the felt retainers on the knuckles leak when you fill the reservoirs, you will need to replace the felt. There was a similar thread posted here recently, you may want to look back a few pages.

4x4lugnut, I think I got my wiring diagram from one of the vendors on this site a few years back, but they are available from a number of vendors.
