Does anyone know how to identify a 240 cylinder head from a 300 head?
I picked up a head from the swap meet that was supposed to be a 300, but when I got it home and took a closer look at it I'm not sure. I thought the 300 used an O-ring seal on the exhaust valve and an umbrella seal on the intake valve. The 240 uses umbrella seals on all the valves. The head I bought has umbrella seals on all valves. The casting # on the head reads C8AE-D 10 and on top of the head reads 0A20. Is there any other way to positively identify them?
I know of two things different. First, the combustion chamber volume is less, and second, some of the newer 300 if not most of them have drilled and tapped holes into each exhaust port for the smog pump discharge manifold. I do not beleive the 240 had these.
