how do you get weaker? the 9" has been used in any form of racing since it came out.

And if the design is So much weaker, than why does every 18 wheeler have that same set up?

the ease for gear change would be nice, but im with paul, how many times are going to be changing gears? once you get decided on gears wouldnt you just put them in and run em? go with the D60 front and a sterling od D70 rear like kris said unless you really wanna built one of those 9' hybrid axles but i still like the good ol sterling rear

youre going to have to drop some serious coin in to a 9" to be able to handle diesel type stress. 35-40sp shafts and a new center section to start.

Go with a D70 or Sterling unless you want to be super beef and go with a D80.

I know what yall are saying (Wait for wait for it) BUT who knows I might want to run down a drag strip one day or go cross country.

I'd rather have the ability to than wish I did. dos that make sense.

weaker was referring to using a 9inch instead of a sterling/d70 and d60 front

I still don't see the 9" as weaker if it can take the launch of a 2,000 hp dragster.

I seriously hope you don't think that a 2k hp dragster runs a stock run of the mill 9"!!! Those rears have more money than Kris has in his D60 to be able to handle that kind of power. And not just in shafts, is totally a complete custom unit from the housing, the shafts, the 40 spline carriers and custom racing R&P's. Not meaning to sound offensive, but if you were thinking that those rears were anywhere close to off the shelf parts right from Ford, then I got this bridge in Arizona I want to make you a deal on!!!

a big part of that is weight also. its kinda like trannys the t56 tremec can handle 700hp but only in a 4k lbs car. put it in a truck and run bigger tires and another 4k lbs and it will explode. if you want a drop out center section and a beefy axle try and find a dana 110. i know they have the drop out centers, but i dont know how much better clearce your gonna get. ive only seen them in the f650s and up. dont know much about them other then that.

Thats for a totally different animal. The light weight of the Jeeps that that axle are intended for help out with using the 9" center, don't think it will hold up to a heaiver truck with the hp/tqe of the diesel that was originally discussed.

that 1550 looks sweet but I didn't see a price on it so I'm gonna guess it's at least 5 grand for it as well.

I have Currie and strange bookmarked allready but thanks.

throw the same amount of money at a d60 and it will be that much stronger, it doesn't make any sense to me to throw money at half ton axles to get something that MIGHT take the abuse you want to put it through.

OK from sq one I'm gonna get a medium duty truck (international 4300 or the like) and take the engine (I6 Dt360/466 the 360 is about the same size as a cummins) and tranny and put it in my bronco IT must remain DOT legal.

of course after boxing the frame rewiring and repairing all the rust.

I was thinking of finding a 4x4 truck if I can find one cheep and using the axles from it, but Kris said I'd loose to much ground clearance (I don't remember it's been about 3 years since I worked on one) and suggested rocks b/c of the drop outs in probably one of his less sober moments. lol

Must have drop outs. No give on this one guys sorry.
