maybe if you were rich as hell and you mowhawked the diff, narrowed it ran wheel brakes, and bought the 4:** gears coming out for the rocks at over 1k per diff..........
i'll be driving mine on the street...
but i agree.....
and all that would have you probably the same if not more expensive than a D60/70 combo with gears of choice and detroits.
what sucks is once you get past a 44 inch tire the only choice is a rock.
\whoa whoa..........so much to learn!
2.5 ton toploader rocks
2.5 ton face loader (think gigundus 9")
all breeds of unimogs are stronger then d60, most stonger then rocks except the 404's and equivilent....
the many types of planitary axles like zf's and clark.....
loader axles and other heavy equipment.....
there are tons of beef axles, then you got the 2.5 ton's in G.M. models and then you step up to 5 ton stuff.................

i know about the ones bigger then rocks im just sayin price wise there isnt anything between rocks and 60s. rocks can be had pretty cheap compared to the mogs or zfs. granted with some work they can have the same ground clearce but thats when they get pricey. of course if you get lucky and find someone who doesnt know what they have you can always get a deal.

404's are between......and aren't all that pricey....
Im the first guy to tell you that a D60 front is extremely expensive to build right. I cut a few corners with cheaper parts and still had right at $4000 in my total build doing it myself over about 6 months. Looking back buying a complete axle already built to my specs and shipped from dynatrac for $4600 wouldve been the way to go. I wouldve had that much money, or maybe more, if I wouldve used superiors and ctms like I wanted. So far the yukon 4340 inners and Alloy usa 4340 35sp outers have held up fine though.
