Hello, for those of you that looked at my last post about buying a f-1or250, with the 300, I still can't decide between efi or carb. For me right know efi would be cheaper unless I can find a good cheap carb. I will be running efi manifolds with 2.5 or 2.25 exhaust, comp cam260H with K-kit, and if carbed, a offy intake. I need some opinions and info on good carbs that are cheap(under $350) that I could use. The truck will probably have a manual transmission.

I am totally un-objective, because I love EFI and I am not the least bit afraid of wiring, so I vote for EFI. However, if you are afraid of wiring, or don't have smog in your area for older (and likely carbureted) vehicles, I could see the carb'd option as a viable one. But I'd go with injection. Smoother running, cleaner operation, more reliable, longer lasting, better fuel consumption.
Any 4v carb 390 cfm to 500 cfm will work fine when properly tuned and can be had on e/bay well within your price range like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=002
holleyperformance has like new carbs on their eBay auctions. Do some searching and you can find Carter/Edelbrocks too.
Mine is EFI. Never drove a carb'd 300. Gotta say I love my EFI. You can build a carb'd one easier I suppose, but there's a 40 HP difference stock. Either way they're both good motors. But I would personally go for the EFI just because of the added HP. Yeah, HP isn't everything, but it's nice to have.
Well I've had both and the Carbed was a lot better. Alot less to go wrong. I'm not sure if fuel mileage matters o you, but I know from experience that when FoMoCo put EFI on the 300, the mileage suffered severly.

Well, keep in mind the 300 gained quite a bit HP. I'm sure that didn't help.
Brett1989: I don't have any figures yet...I am an OTR trucker...only get to the house 2 months out of the year and hopefully I'll get to drive enough to get a read on the mileage. All I can say at this point is that the gas guage barely moves puttering around town (unlike the old stock set up) as long as I resist the urge to do a lot of "goosing" the secondaries...And I will be home Monday night...Yes!, Yes!,Yes!
BTW that cam might not be EFI computer compatible all though it is similar to the Crane 503901 I think used by some here with EFI's.
I checked summit and it says that cam isn't commputer compatible, but it says that for every other cam for the 300 and I even checked 5.0's and all the ones I checked for a 5.0 said they aren't commputer compatible either. So I don't know what to think. I would love to have a carbed engine, but it costs alot to do what I want to it. I can find a cheap carb now, but I still have to pay about $250 for the offy intake, $330 for the comp cam and K-kit and I will have to pay an exhaust shop to custom make some downpipes for the efi manifolds. Plus the cost of the efi manifolds if the truck doesn't have them allready witch would only be about maybe $50. It starts to add up pretty quick.

Check directly with the manufacturer like Crane, Comp, etc. You can get the info off their web sites and contact their Tech. Depts by Email or phone...and it surely does add up in a hurry. If you are switching from EFI to carb you may have to invest in a DS2 distributor and ignition box too.
How much would the DS2 and ignition box cost? Sadly I'm starting to look at 5.0s and 5.8s because I can't seem to find very many trucks with the 300, and the ones I do find are 2wd not 4wd. But I'm going to continue looking for a 300, unless I decide to get a 5.0or5.8 and I find one that I like, but I haven't seen a 5.0 or 5.8 that I like that is a good price either.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:
