i have a 88 ford 7.3 superduty. I started it up just fine. drove it a block just fine and it died. no sputter, no shaking, nothing, just died. HELP ME.......... It turn over fine. sounds great but won't fire off. Glow plugs are brand new and work... It does not have a cam sensor. The fuel pump is new. The fuel injection pump is not. It is rotary.

Cam sensor, whats that? These engines are all mechanical.
Has any other recent maintainence been done on the truck?
The first thing I would do is take the fuel filter off to see if its full.
If that checks out, put the filter back on (make sure its full) then try to crack an injector line to see if fuel is getting to the injectors (while cranking)
I had that problem with my truck when I first got it! Make sure the fuel shut off soliniod on the Injector pump (drivers side forward) electrical connector is clean and tight. No power = no run.
How much fuel in the tank? It is very common for the pick-up tubes in the tank to come off leaving you out with the gauge showing 1/4 - 1/3 tank, or more. If the other tank isn't empty, you might get it started by switching to the other tank.
Try depressing the schrader valve on the fuel filter housing (above/behind the alternator, on a '91 at least) while someone cranks the engine over. If you get air, you're not getting enough fuel.
Be careful to crank the starter for no more than 20 seconds and then wait for at least two minutes before trying again, or you may burn out your starter.
i had that problem last night it happened to be the fuel shut off cylinoid was toast and quit working you can take the top of the injection pump off with those 3 squews and put 12 volts and ground it and see if the relay is workin on it if not its shot you will have to call a injection place to get that part ......
i haven't had my 93 7.3 very long and i thought i had a 1/4 tank and it shut down,i rolled into gas station and filled it up and was fine.my gage isn't quite right either.i know now if its on a 1/4 of a tank i better get fuel.
Gunner: My 88 has dual tanks, and the gas gauge works about as poorly as the temp and pressure gauge. I installed Ispro gauges for coolant temp, oil pressure and pyro, but I watch how many miles I go between fill ups! If I'm pulling anything I'll go 150 miles per tank, otherwise I'll go 250 per tank.
i only get about 205 miles on a tank(93 f 350 7.3 non turbo,4.10 gears) i have only 15.something gallon tanks,i get crappy millage but i keep my foot in it,i'm used to driving a gasser,i'll learn after i keep spending all that money on fuel.thanks for your help.

just so ya know, its is not that your gauge is wrong, more than likely it is that the pickup on your fuelpumps in your tank is cracked, it is a common problem on trucks of our age ( i have a 92 dually 7.3 idi) cheap and easy fix, or just fill at a 1/4 tank.
