I have a '98 ranger and im wanting to put dual glass packs ehaust on it. Im probably just going to get an exhaust shop to put em on for me. I want them to sound good and let everybody know im coming! What are some things i need to know? Name brand, size, reasonable price, up-keep. THANKS!!!
Over a period of time glass packs will keep getting louder and louder as you blow them out. I would also look at a nice pair of flowmasters if you have the 4.0.
Theres mixed opinions on the flowmaster...but i have one flowmaster 40 with dual outs on my 4.0L ranger and I love the way it sounds...Nice deep rumble at idle and when u get down on it u know its comming...it was a great investment...total it did cost me about $250 for all equipment and install.
My two cents: If it isn't a V8 or an American V-Twin is shouldn't be heard. Now with that being said in an effort to improve my gas mileage I swapped the stock muffler on my 3.0L for a Thrush fully welded. It sounds a lot better than I thought it would; a nice, deep rumble that is understated without being ignored. It won't be mistaken for some rice burner and it sets you apart from everybody else that believes that Flowmaster is the end all and be all of exhaust. And the best part is I got a little over two mile better to the gallon
I threw some thrush turbo muffler on my 3.0L. With no seconday cat, and hollowed out primary cat, the car has a small rumble to it, but still very quiet
You want it to sound good but not like an import? Flowmasters all the way. Glasspacks were invented by people who wanted loud exhausts but can't use straight pipes and are too cheap for a real muffler.
I run a Fullblown 50 series on my personal rig, and I like the sound. It is like the 40 series only quieter. The 40 series is loud if it is installed correctly, and it will last longer than a glasspack.
I agree with the flowmaster. I put a 40 series on my 3.0 and love the sound. I also got rid of the tailpipe and brought it out right before my rear wheel. added some more sound and looks good too.
