Is this "turbo fart" more of a rumble or whistle. Mine makes a blowing over the top of a beer bottle "whistle" noise under same conditions. I have an '04 w/56k. just started to notice it last winter. Dont drive the truck hardly at all in the summer so I assumed it was just a winter thing.

The noise that mine makes is not a whistle. More like a rumble, wooof, wooof. Hard to explain.
I did get my truck back last night... I was still able to reproduce the noise. They gave me a bulletin indicating that Ford doesn't think it is a problem. It will only do it if I accelerate fairly hard to about 20 Turbo psi boost, and completely let go of the accelerator. The noise is heard while the boost drops to zero... I can accelerate hard and ease up without completely letting go of the accelerator and than there is no noise. Strange....
yeah it only happens when shes cold.....never happens when shes warmed up!
It's your truck, so feel free to do it if you want to, but jumping on it when it's cold is not a clever thing to do. Go easy on it until it's warmed up and your truck will thank you for it.
the only thing my trubo makes is boost. besides the noise around 5 psi. like someone is whistleing over a beer bottle makeing that whooo noise. but fellow fte's told me this is normal.

I've got that same noise. '05 trucks can have another bracket added to the turbo pedestal to eliminate the drone - there is a TSB on Turbo Drone. But mine is an '06 and already had the bracket from the factory. So I was told there was nothing that could be done. The sound used to really irritate me, especially on highways where the speed limit was 55 to 60 because that was a sweet spot for it to occur. Now that I have 35,000 miles, I think it has quietened down some (either that or I've just gotten used to it and don't pay attention any more).

I had the exact same thing as you...It's not turbo fart and the faint whistle you hear when letting off the throttle (blowing across the top of the beer bottle is an exact analogy) is the sound of boost being lost out the leaky head gaskets. Just had mine done for the exact same issue, slight puke in the degas, some slight coolant loss and that annoying ghost whoooooing in the background (also seemed worse when it was cold out), the result was one warped head and both gaskets replaced and the truck seems to have a heck of a lot more stock horsepower than it used to. Get it checked ASAP before ya blow it up.
if this was a major problem wouldnt i see antifreeze leaking or another sign. many people have told me this is normal. i dont know how true it is but my truck is an 07 i bought it with 18k on it and a clean oasis. so i doubt this is a big problem. at least i hope not. Anyone else have this noise and saw it to be a problem??
Another thing is i hate to have to go to the dealership and have them *****ers lie to me and say it is normal and have it be a big problem later. or have them mess it up even more.
Do what ya like....I had the exact same issue as you and I just posted the outcome. If you want to believe that it is not a big issue, then leave it alone. I know the whistle annoyed the crap outta me and having that repaired alone was worth taking it in.
As I indicated, I saw slight coolant loss from the degas bottle (puked just a little outta the lid) so there was a light white residue on the bottle and drivers side of the engine. I saw no coolant on the ground or in the oil and there was no significant increase in steam on cold start. I was lucky...If you got more steam in the exhaust too that means the gasket is leaking into your intake and could result in pitting of the pistons and premature wear on the cylinder walls, another symptom of this is longer than usual cranking time. If you are loosing it in the oil then loss of lubricity.
All I know is the truck starts better, runs smoother on cold start and has more stock HP than it did before and no whistle.....
One quick diagnostic run by the tech with a pressure guage hooked to the cooling system will tell ya. I was getting a consistant 19psi when it should only be around 11psi or so I was told by the dealer.
ok i guess i will have to bring it to the dealer and ask them to check it bfore it gets worst or maybe just see if they can get rid of the noise it is a lil anoyying. but i hate to have them check my truck and especially a dealer that claims they have a certified diesel tech and they really don't. is there anyway i can check on that??
