You mean check on if the Tech is certified by ford? The should have the fellers certification displayed prominently at the service counter.
Just have a quick look under your hood. Have you noticed a sight drop in the coolant level in the degas bottle? Is there a slight puke inside the engine compartment from the degas lid? Has the lid on the degas ever been replaced with a new one with the correct relief pressure? Have you ever noticed....especially on a really cold day that the truck will blow hot air, then when you get on the throttle it will blow cooler air, then hot again?
You haven't indicated any other symptoms other than the noise. If you could post any other symptoms, it may help to confirm that head gasket issue. But sounds identical to mine.
Is there more than one Ford dealer in your area? Maybe you should switch as it sounds as though you may have had a bad experience with them in the past. Or do just think that all dealers are the same? I'll tell you that the dealer I use has been exceptional in the service and workmanship.
Not a bad experience but i think they are all crooks and have uncertified people look at the cars and feed us a bunch of lies. For any other sympotoms nothing of what you mentioned. i will fill my degas bottle up to max and check if it goes down over a week/month. As for any antifreeze were the degas bottle is no and for the cap looks stock to me. I will have to see if my truck blow hot air then cold when giving throttle but as far as i know no it doesn't, but i will check. The tech. at any dealer should have a certificate correct? what should the certif. say on it? can i ask to see it at the dealer when i go to make sure that the one who is working on the truck is certified??
I had the exact same thing as you...It's not turbo fart and the faint whistle you hear when letting off the throttle (blowing across the top of the beer bottle is an exact analogy) is the sound of boost being lost out the leaky head gaskets. Just had mine done for the exact same issue, slight puke in the degas, some slight coolant loss and that annoying ghost whoooooing in the background (also seemed worse when it was cold out), the result was one warped head and both gaskets replaced and the truck seems to have a heck of a lot more stock horsepower than it used to. Get it checked ASAP before ya blow it up.
Hope this helps.
My 30,000 mile '06 has the "beer bottle whistle" (excellent analogy btw). It started gradually a few thousand miles ago. Only occurred once in a while on fairly radical adjustments in the throttle. Now it does it pretty much all the time coming in and out of all boost levels. My truck is completely stock with the exception of an SCT tuner (mild tune). Interestingly, when I reloaded the stock tune the sound quit. After a couple weeks of stock running I loaded in the SCT tune and noise resumed just as prominently as ever. I have a question Kusto, if it were the head gaskets, why would the head gaskets whistle on deceleration? I can't really understand why. Could you hear the whistle from both sides of your engine? The sound I'm getting is definitely coming from the driver's side of the engine. Also, the truck seems torun as good as ever, has never puked, and makes the sound whether it is really cold or warmer outside (I live in Alaska). Anybody have anything to add based on these observations/questions? Thanks for the help.
Sorry it took so long to get back to ya....was gone ice fishing last few days....I'm thinking the whistle when you let off the throttle is a result of the boost pressure building in the crank case maybe? and the whistle is actually coming from the CCV????
Mine was same as you Oats...keep driving it a little longer that way and eventually you will have the boost leak all the time just like me. On another note, I only had a slight spray out the top of my degas and it was shortly after I got the new truck. I did not run the SCT until I had 45,000KM on it and even then only ever ran the tow economy tune. I did not have excessive white smoke so I was not loosing coolant out the exhaust and I did not continue to puke coolant out the degas so the stuff was vaporizing off some where along the way. The said it was a darned good thing the coolant/head gasket leak wasn't on the intake side or the repairs could have been far more extensive (pistons and both heads instead of just one head and no pistons). Coolant on top of a read hot piston doesn't do anything any favours.
As far as hearing the whistle from both sides, it was kinda difficult to track down as you are driving, but it would sound like wit would move around on occasion. Maybe it was just due to wind direction while driving moving the sound around under the hood. i wish I had the time to go in and see just what the found as soon as they opened it up but it was done just too quickly.
Oats another note, unload your SCT for as long as you can before you go in (mine was out for a month) and also discharge your capacitors by disconnecting both batteries to remove all trace of the tuner. I wasn't super worried because I never race but why take the chance. If you are on the higher settings most of the time you will have obvious piston wash that may give them cause to question your warranty claim.
Say, if I'm backing up (into a parking spot) and have to get on the throttle a little and off again, I can make it do it at will. If I'm manuvering through a parking lot or traffic at low speed it happens everytime I let off the throttle.
Turbo was changed at 12k miles (before I purchased the truck) and I've not had an issue to date (56k miles).
Get yer gaskets checked because because you got troubles my man. A simple check of the pressures in your degas bottle at pressures over 17PSI (max normal operating pressure) will tell the tech right of way that you got gasket issues.
Mine Makes the exact same noise, just watched it on U-Tube, and I have 73,000 miles on it, not to worried about it, I guess they all do it. or should I?

went to the dealership for my noise they said it was totally normal all of our trucks do this they said. so i am not going to fight with them it is not worth my time. already had a bad exp. with them this time hate to bring it back.
if you baby the truck(as in not RUN it) the turbo will rust causing it to Turbo Fart more easily....only did it once in 37K miles on mine and I drive it at least 20 miles a day 5 days a week.
I've seen the turbo fart video. That is a totally different situation than the beer bottle whistle. My truck has never even once exhibited the turbo fart, but whistles on and off the throttle pretty much all the time now.

Same with me but only at 5-10psi of boost. The truck in the turbo fart video has major issues. my truck never has done that to me only whistle. Which are two different things. I have been told by other FTE's as well as the dealer that the beer bottle whistle is normal.
