It is possible that there could be some long term relief in diesel prices as natural gas bocomes more popular, I heard a big deal in texas that was signed just a few days ago, to extract billions worth of natural gas.
CNG became very popular in my town 10 years ago when the infrastructure was first put in, many houses that would have otherwise been heated with oil (diesel) or electric are now on CNG. Heat pumps are also more popular with newer homes.
My point being that the same price hikes we are seeing in diesel fuel are also being seen for heating oil, so sooner or later, home builders (and owners) will stop using these systems becuse of the higher cost. Converting a house to run on other fuels is a bit more reasonable than a truck, and folks are doing that too.
for now, I'll be driving my diesel, but if it gets really bad, my LPG truck will go back on the road.
some areas have plenty of natural gas but no way to get it to many parts of the country propane is not available every where so home heating oil is used which is diesel without the rd tax.

My point exactly, once the infrastructure was in, we (along with many other home owners) switched to GNG heating since it was so much cheaper, swapped hot water heater too. For a while, gaseous fuels were simply burned off, since the crud oil under it was easier to trasnport, indeed some places still do this (what a waste).
But I am at a loss as to why propane is still so hard to find in the states, its a great fuel. Up here, at least 1 in three stations have it, even in many remote areas. But 300-400L tanks are still fairly comon (in bed tank). I like my F150, becuase I have a 350+ Km range, and the bottle is still small enough to fit where the OEM tank (front) was (100L), so I still have the full 8' of usable box. Might put some twin tanks in the old rear tank position some day if I ever want a longer range.
most flying js have propane to cater to motorhomes and travel trailers. extremely rare for a gas station to even have an attendant for gas propane noway selfserv.

haha, yeah they won't let you pump your own propane here ether, unless at a cardlock, and then you have to fill out a safety course before you can get an account. I have to admit, going to full serve is not a something I like about LPG.
Propane is not self serve, U haul and a couple other places have it here though.
Converting gas motors to run on CNG is rather popular here, we have several gas companies that have converted all the well tenders and company trucks to run on CNG.
There are several personal cars running CNG as fuel here as well.
Right quick I can think of two places that have CNG pumps for public use.
They are both Speedway stations.
Each of the local gas companies also have their own refueling stations.
I built one of the first CNG refueling stations in the state 12 or 15 years ago and ran the line over for the first Speedway to tie their station into.
I know there are several more in the surrounding area.
But then you also have to understand that there are probably 1000 gas wells in the county I live in and that many more in each of the surrounding counties.
