fuel price

What is with the fuel price all off a sudden diesel fuel here in ny is 3.529 a gallon. What is it around you? Its went up here .30 cents in the last 2 weeks. I don’t see how they expect people to be able to pay. Wages don’t go up.

Well oil jumped to $96 a barrel recently and as a result everything's gone up by 10 cents here (haven't noticed a huge difference in diesel prices yet). 87 octane has gone from $2.84 to $3.05 in a span of two weeks, diesel's gone from $3.19 to $3.39 at most places. It sucks.

It will be at least another week before you feel the effects of it being at $96 a barrel. The jump from 3.19 to 3.39 is from the per barrel price of about $90.

Side note to those interested, good read:

It's about the recent price jump.

3.499 per gallon is 91 cents per liter

How close are we to Canadian prices?

So the dollar difference would put us at 95 cents per liter.

But then I have not checked fuel prices since Thursday.
Hard to tell what it is now, we increased 30 cents per gallon last week in two days.

This, along with the thread starters comment "Wages do not go up" bothers the hell out of me .

The exchange rate is to the canadian advantage right now, so it would be $1.05 USD.

Prepare yourselves! There is more to come.

Here in Norway I pay more than 2 $ pr. litre; ca. 8,5 $/gallon. (A very weak dollar is a part of the reason) I think Sweden, Denmark, Netherland, England and others have very much the same prices.

The prices may turn down again, but only for some given time.
There is a lack of energy in the world, and over time the prices will only go up.
I hate to say this, but I think the american car-industry will be history if you don`t start building smaller cars with much smaller engines.

We seem to have it pretty good in north america, with folks in the USA paying the least for fuel followed by canada. Americans also consume the most amount of energy per capita, again, followed by canadians.

Venezuela has the cheapest fuel on the planet, but their prices are controled at the federal level, instead of allowing market pressures to drive them.

When will prices get better? when we stop buying gas.

Prahaps we could start an underground biodiesel distribution network.....ether that, or build your own electric pickup. There are alternatives, but it takes more effort than to just bend over and take your lumps, so for now we keep on paying.

EDIT: The fact of the matter is, that there isn't a fuel shortage, and there won't be one even in the distant future. Beneath the surface of every ancient ocean bed on the planet is the potential for vast oil researves, why do you think so many countries all want a piece of the north west passage in the arctic before any exploratory drilling?

Oil doesn't come from dinosaurs, it comes mainly from diatoms, like plankton, and over millions of years, LOTS of carbon from dead plankton has deposited at the seabed, the same creature is also responsible for more O2 in the atmosphere and more CO2 scrubbing than all the forests on earth.

Sorry for the biology lesson, bottom line is things are going to get more expencive as markets re-adjust for higher energy prices, and oil will be around for a long time to come, but don't expect a big change in automotive technology, if we buy em, they'll build em........

they'll just keep moving the oil rigs farther and farther out into the see to tap into the vast oil deposits. there is enough oil (from what i read) to last us well into 2100...getting it will be the problem.
