5.4 for cobra

A cry for help I recently came across a 96 cobra with a blown up 4.6 and a friend has a wrecked 04 f150 with a 5.4 in it tha still runs fine with low milage. My question is will the doc heads off the 4.6 fit the 5.4 and if so which head gaskets should be used the 4.6 or 5.4. Finally the last brain teaser is does the ballencing on the lower rotating assembly of the 4.6 and 5.4 share the same characteristics as far as dampener and flywheel weight and if so will the flywheel off the 4.6 fit the 5.4. thanks

the heads will fit, you'll need a 5.4 dohc timing cover and chains from a navigator, as for the head gaskets, i believe they should be the same

you'll need either an adapter or a different intake (i'd recommend sullivan) for the 5.4 dohc.

fun swap, good luck with it

yep, your deck height is longer therefore the chains have to stretch extra length on both sides; and the timing cover has to cover those

You can use a Navigator intake which works well on a stock engine. They just did a intake comparison on a DOHC 5.4L in the last Muscle Mustang and Fast Ford mag.
Actually, if you can get a 2000 Cobra R intake, it will be closest to fitting under the hood and have the right powerband for a Mustang.

hehe, that intake might as well be non-existant though

best intake for the 5.4, especially high revving 5.4s or forced induction projects, sullivan... hands down

If you MUST use the 4.6 cobra intake they do make adapter plates. I'm sure they don't help in the HP department, but if you don't have the $$ for a intake right away, they are an option.

I believe that all 5.4L are Windsors, at least the 2V are. I think the 4.6L Cobra engines are Romeo built.

You can try these guys. They tend to have good pricing on most of the stuff that you would need.
