Heater control

My question has to do with a '98 F-150. I have 3 ***** that control heating and cooling functions. The left **** runs the fan, the middle controls the temp and the right one controls the ac/heater direction and operation. My problem is with the middle ****. It seems to be bound up and doesn't turn freely. I assume it is an electrical switch. Can I lube it with something or does it need to be replaced? What is the part called if I need to replace it, as I can't seem to find a description on a couple of parts websites.

Replaced the switch with a new factory part, but the **** still slips on the stem of the switch when it is cold. Any ideas?

The **** contains an inserted metal clip which actually contacts the switch post. The clip is press fitted inside the ****. The metal clip is slipping inside the ****. Purchase a new **** from ford, or how I fixed mine was I used a two part epoxy and carefully epoxied the clip to the ****. I let the epoxy harden over night before I put the **** back on the switch. DO NOT EPOXY THE **** TO THE SWITCH POST (You want to ensure you can remove it from the switch post should you ever need to replace the switch) The two part epoxy I used was J-B Weld brand. It's been over two years since I repaired mine and it has not slipped. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I replaced the switch a few years back thinking a new one would turn easier, which wasn't the case. I've also moved the ***** around without much luck. I'll try your tip next.

Those ***** aren't all that expensive if you want a good tight fitting one---try NAPA for something that looks the same or OEM Ford.

I had an older blower switch overheat and melt the ****---was expecting the worst but pleasantly surprised. If memory serves they're $10 or less.

Update

2 of the three ***** were cracked, so the metal clip slipped inside. Ordered set of three from E-bay for $15.
