2000 Ranger,3.0 ext cab,When towing a trailer[5x14] with 4 wheeler at night apposing traffic forever flashing lights.Whats best way to remedy this problem,air shocks,spring addtion?.What ya,ll recomend.Thanks,Paul
Well shocks aren't meant to handel a towing, or hauling load, springs are.
What is your tongue weight, with the load on the trailer????
Does your ride have Fords tow package???
If not, does it have Fords payload package #2????
If it doesn't have payload package #2, I'd maybe consider ordering & installing it, or have it done.
if you have an auto tranny, but don't have the tow package, or no tranny cooler, I'd seriously consider opting for a good quality, low restriction flate plate tranny cooler too.
Yah I know the cooler doesn't have anything to do with head light aim while towing, but if your dragging around enough weight for the head lights to be aimed up in the trees, the tranny likely needs looking after too!!!!
Sometimes people just have no clue though. You have a vehicle that sits higher than cars and crossovers anyways. if you put a perfectly safe and reasonable load on it, either in the bed or towing a nominal trailer as you stated, they will appear too high to other drivers. With you truck unloaded, check to adjustment of the headlights. I think its optimal at around 36" at 6'. Then you need to just ignore touchy people when you have the load on the truck, because believe it or not you are still within legal range.
You may still be bothered by the flashing at you, but is it really worth spending close to $1000 dollars to have a shop put heavier suspension on? is it worth $400 for a weight distribution hitch that may be overkill and adversely affect the handling when towing.
So give the lights a check when unloaded and go from there.
Check the tongue weight. If too high, maybe the load is too far forward on the trailer. Can it be repositioned to lighten the tongue weight to the proper range?
