Have run into an issue - well, it's a small one, non-the-less an issue.
2006 F-250 v10 4x4.....
Over the last 2 weeks + the speedometer has stopped working and stays at 0mph. This has seemed to happen on cold nights where the temp. has gotten into the 40's, high 30's here in Maryland.
Does anyone have an idea in regards to what might be going on? How to fix it? etc... I do have 35'' bfg's on it - doesn't seem like that should cause an issue other then the speedo being off 5mph.
I'd start by looking at your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). It's a sensor on the top of your rear differential, It may just need cleaning or it may need to be replaced, but it's easy to remove and not expensive.
My 99 does the same thing, i checked the vss on top of the rear end, but everything tests fine.... It happens to my truck, most of the time on the first start up, usually i stop shut the truck off and then re-start and it works fine. Still leads me to think that there is an electrical problem somewere. But it doesnt happen frequently enough to bother me yet...
exactly what is happening with me... happens here and there, not all the time and like I said - it seems to be colder evenings. If I shut the engine off, fire it back up the speedo works. Starting to wonder if I ever can trust it
just my speedometer. It would stay at 0 a lot and i would just use the tach to tell how fast i was going till i had time to take it in. THe first attempt thay tried to do some electrical stuff to it then finally just replaced the entire instrument cluster and has been acting right for 15k miles
Had the same problem in Feb 2007 with my 2006 F350 CC that I bought brand new in Dec 2006. The speedo would be either zero or show me going say 90 mph when I was only doing maybe 30. Would do this for awhile, then stop, then do it again, etc.
By the time I was able to bring it to the dealer, it wasn't doing it, so naturally the dealer wouldn't.couldn't do anything.
I figure that when the winter cold sets in and it does it again, I'll drive it right to the dealer.
