I have a 78 F-150 4X4 and lately, the speedometer has been wiiging out when I get past 50MPH. It seems as though the needle gets lazy and can't stay in position. Any thoughts?
an easy place to start is on the xmsn were the spead cable hooks up and see if it is secure, if it is, pull the gear out and check the gear. They get worn and start slipping.
Second, look on the back of the instrument cluster, may be comming loose. check for any binding, good luck.
Tuffguy --- the cable might be wimping out on you (binding), as they do get dry. Speedo cable lubricant is available at your friendly Napa automotive parts store - remove the connector behind the speedometer and gently slide the cable out and lube it and slide it back in and try that....
