Just don't have any experience with them.

Please don't eliminate them from consideration.

consider it done :-)

4. In the summer time I carry a Kel-Tec .380. Tiny gun, well made and warranted, and has a little belt clip that you can slip inside any waist band, even shorts and hide very well. The .380 is almost the oomph of a 9mm and I have 7 shots in a 3/4" wide x 3" long frame.

I know the kimber is out of my price range, I recognize the name Steyr but thats about it, and as far as the .380 I'm sure its a good round, but not sure if I want/trust something smaller than a .4

would a gun range have different makes models to try, maybe put some lead down range?

Pardon my hijack, but how do you like that SX2? Had you ever shot the SX1 and if so, how would you compare them?

I guess there's an SX3 out now as well.

Sorry, dragogt, but i've been wanting to "talk" to an SX2 owner for a while now. Please pardon my interruption.

What does "too bad about being in Ca." have to do with talking about the ranger?

I have friends that carry that pistol at times and they all have good things to say about that little gun.

Kel-Tec looks pretty good, but besides being DAO, they don't make anything bigger than a 9mm. but they are in my price range though.

We have a lot of gun shops here that will rent you a firearm by the half hour to try out different brands. You might have some there that would do the same.

I've never shot an SX1 so I don't know how they compare. I really like the SX2 for competition. It is what the army team is shooting now. The action can do a .19 sec cycle time. I am finding with this gun that I can shoot splits faster than most nationally ranked shooters (typically in the .20-.25 range)but they can reload much faster than I can so while I gain as much as a half second over 8 shots when it comes to reloading those 8 shots they beat me by 4-10 seconds. I need to practice that.

It is heavier than the Benelli by a bit, but seems more stable. It cycles very smoothly.

The SX3 is quite a bit lighter. I have not shot one of those either.

I still use my Win 120 pump for pheasants.

I know it's more than you wanted to spend but there are other brands in your price range that make an officer's sized 1911 that would carry just the same. Actually I think S&W is one of them.
