New Member Needs some help (Fuel Filter)
Hello all,
Been reading your site for awhile, lots of good info! Decided after reading I better do a tune up on my 92 ford F150 4x4 3006 auto and was going to change the fuel filter but I cannot get the old one off!?!? I took the c clips of the line and filter both sides but cannot get the lines to slip of the old fuel filter. I seen up by the motor theres a bleader valve? and it drained a couple teaspoons of fuel thought that might help but didnt. Can anyone tell me the correct way to change the fuel filter? EJ

ej, you need to first relieve the fuel pressure by finding the inertia switch, which is behind the passenger kick panel. there is a red button which needs to be pryed up while your truck is idling, then it should stall. then you need to disconnect the negative battery cable. most important thing to buy is the plastic tool at any auto store. its just a plastic ring that you slide onto the stem of the fuel filter, then push into the spring lock connector, and that will let you pull off the fuel lines. remember to reset the inertia switch when your all done. hope this helps out!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Nov-02 AT 04:42 PM (EST)]Hello: You can buy the cheap plastic clips (red, blue, etc.) at the auto parts store or you can go to a real tool place and buy the metal ones for 20.00. After going though several of the plastic ones I spent the money for the real clips. They slid up inside the fuel line connector to release the fuel filter. The metal ones are easier to get on the fuel line ( I think) anyway. You need the metal ones anyway if you do the fuel tank. You'll need the 1/4" and 3/8" metal clips. Some of the clips are labeled for air conditioning use. But, they'll work on your fuel lines. Don't fight with the fuel filter. With the right release clips the fuel filter lines will fall right off.
Hope this helps,
