I've got a 91 Mustang that a guy traded me for a tractor I had. I already done everything possible with mustangs with gas engines, and I want to try something new. I have two 7.3 blocks in my shop and I want to make a psd mustang. I was wondering if any body had any ideals on a design. Me and my father in law had come up with some engine combonations, and I'm thinking I can get up to 1100hp and about 1300ftlbs of torque. Their is going to be alot of cutting and modifying going on, but if anybody has any Ideals please feel free to reply back. thanks.
I've seen big-block conversions (429/460), but nothing like that!! I dropped a 351W in my '84, but that pales in comparison to what you're trying to do... I would think you'd need a donor truck or something for the wiring and all that. An 1100 HP PSD would almost be a shame to "waste" on a 'stang, but no doubt the cool-factor is way up the scale!! I would think you'd have more than 1300 tq. as well with that much HP. Is there enough room for the turbos (I'm assuming compounds, here) -- the small-block was a tight fit as it was!!
I wish you luck, and please take some good pics along the way!!
Im going to try and shoot down the idea, simply because the engine is too large to physically fit in there with that much stuff you'd need to support 1100hp. AND do you know how much $$ it will take to build a 1100hp powerstroke, EVEN if one would be able to exist, i'd bet you money that it'd take over $50,000 of engine work just to build an engine that strong. Now, you could get 1100 lb-ft of torque at 600hp for about half the cost, or possibly less. But just accept the fact that if you keep the HEUI injection system, youre going to be limted for power, and two large turbos under the hood isnt going to help out space issues. You'd be better off with a twin-turbo V-10 6.8L
I want it to be a psd mustang for the simple fact, it will probably will be the first. The body is the only thing that is good on the car, so I plan on making a frame for it kind of like a pro modified car. And my father in law is an engine builder and machinist, and I am looking to put about $35,000 into the engine, but it will be worth all the looks it will get.

You now have my attention...
the power to weight ratio would be incredible, $35K for the engine build will get you a real good start. check out WOP's Dragster in the current diesel power mag.
She will sure be a tire fryer with all that weight on the nose and no transfer to the rear wheels. Gonna need some serious coil springs and shocks to hold the nose up. I think if you gut the inner fenders and chop the firewall you may have a chance at getting the engine in there. If you are going to build a frame anyway, you could always stretch it and fab. longer fenders for it. Keep us posted cuz I want to know how it goes.
I think in Diesel Power mag someone shoehorned a Dmax into a Grand National. Anything is possible.
However, 1100hp on a Powerstroke is not exactly feasable yet. No one has had one hit 1000hp on the dyno. Someone has managed to make a p-pumped 7.3L, but there's a lot of custom work done (injector cups, fuel management, etc).
I think you'd be able to get one in the engine bay, however making the projected HP goal is way out of the picture. Be very happy with 600hp and 1100lb ft of torque, that's ALOT in a little car.
Over the years I have had many hotrod mustangs, a '72 w/429, a '79 w/351w, an '86 w/460 & my current one a '93 coupe w/347 & a novi 2000 blower.
I would love to see someone put a PS in one ,,,,,,Good Luck too ya,,,,,,,
I was just the other day thinking how cool it would be to put a PS in a Mark VIII
The fastest mustang I had it was 750hp turbo car, and it ran in the 9's and I want to beet that with a diesel. I think it would be cool to see the video of me driving down the track with the black smoke rollin doing 9's or high 8's

I had a '66 with a 428SCJ and don't know where you would put much more than that and late models are smaller
