I've got a 91 Mustang that a guy traded me for a tractor I had. I already done everything possible with mustangs with gas engines, and I want to try something new. I have two 7.3 blocks in my shop and I want to make a psd mustang. I was wondering if any body had any ideals on a design. Me and my father in law had come up with some engine combonations, and I'm thinking I can get up to 1100hp and about 1300ftlbs of torque. Their is going to be alot of cutting and modifying going on, but if anybody has any Ideals please feel free to reply back. thanks.
Would be way tight. Just throw the compounds on the pasenger seat, wont need it anyways if you want to run 9's, then ice box the IC, then stacks out the roof.
i dont remember if u posted what year mustang were you trying to but the togehther ... a fox body style or a newer 96 model ... again just wondering for me personaly ive always liked the fox body ....but still that would look sick though!

He's working with a '91 -- Fox body. My favorite as well!!
Anything is possible with enough money to throw at it. Sounds like a cool project. I think I would be most worried about the frame and suspension, and less worried on whether it will fit. I mean I've seen Ford Focus's with 347 strokers in them, so anything is possible, with enough cash.
Few free ideas (you know what they say about free advice)
I'd look at fabricating a new fire wall further back and move the seat way back--nearly where the back seat would normally be. This would allow you to place the motor further back and help on weight distribution issue some. Not sure how much length that would leave for a drive shaft though.
Another thought--I wonder if you could mount the motor in the back? Is there a transfer case strong enough to take the abuse? You could pull off some wild wheel stands with that set up!
Thats a cool idea and it would definately be interesting , but...
a mustang with a 7.3 would never....ever get you 9's or high 8's unless the motor was relocated to the back seat somehow.
I've seen souped mustangs with 500 HP and they already have traction issues. The rear end is too light.
Pair that with a heavy diesel truck engine, and you get a recipe for burning tires and fishtailing and doing do-nuts, but nobody could ever keep that car straight enough to race.
I'd bet that as far as 1/4 mile times go,
monster 7.3 in a truck might get a 12- 14 and the 7.3 stang will still be smoking on the start line.

that was also my theory even a 2WD truck has a traction problem with it

Snow White is 2wd and ran a best 11.12. A properly set up 4-link and big slicks will keep it straight and puts power on the ground. If it can be done in a truck, it can be done in a Mustang. There's plenty of 700+ hp Mustangs out there.

asphault ain't the only place a truck is designed to run,in sand or mud they get pretty helpless
700hp mustangs but don't have that much iron on the nose
This project sounds awesome, show up them Dmax/chevy guys! There are proven combos for 600HP, but for 1000HP, your gonna need to figure quite a few things that have been stumping the biggest names in PSD performance.
Are you looking to make a drag car, or touring? G-Machine?
Sounds like a sweet project, I'd say if you have the means, go for it! I'd think that with Cummins hot rods starting to show up, and the Grand National in the last Diesel Power, you'd be able to get it under the hood with a dry sump. Mid engine would be cool too, maybe stretch the wheelbase a bit the help keep her planted?
I've always wanted to see an all-wheel-drive American hot-rod (hint, hint).
