Yes, you can do so, I believe you just replace the Ford bellhousing adaptor with one that goes to the SAE pattern you require, then you just use standard SAE stuff from there. Probably the most common app for such a part would be a 6.9/7.3 in a S-Chassis IH truck, and probably the most common of those would be a school bus.
I've never driven one with an 8 or 9 speed, but, I have driven a few 6.9's in S-Trucks backed by 5x2's.

that is the bell housing pattern used in the MD/HD truck industry. they come in 3 flavors...its like a spacer that bolts between the engine and transmission.

i would say yes, as said above, the IDI was used in medium duty trucks so u just need to locate the right SAE bellhousing...

Here's a basic list of what's needed:

- SAE #2 flywheel housing
- Flywheel specific to SAE spec
- Starter specific to SAE spec(note there are atleast two different starter index hole sizes in the flywheel housings)
- Clutch specific to SAE spec(and disc to transmission)
- SAE #2 clutch cover that works with transmission
- Redo trans mounts to SAE style(one on either side of flywheel housing), may require removal/relocation of a crossmember
- I think IH app exhaust manifolds are different from Ford. If so, perhaps it's due to the flywheel housing and mounts.
- turbo systems for the Ford app may not clear the flywheel housing and the manifolds may be different anyway

The S-series mentioned by 82F100SWB is a good place to look for most of the parts involved.

Yes same thing, just remove the ford adapter that is there now the SAE pattern is underneath. Unless you have a donor the swap is almost 5k with all the parts.

More to it than that, first you have to have an onboard air supply, second, unless they've changed in recent years, all the (Eaton Fuller) Roadrangers use a double disc pull clutch which would require a lot of re-engineering for mechanical clutch linkage from bell housing to clutch pedal. Plus an IDI SAE bell housing won't have the bores on each side of the housing for the fork shaft that a pull clutch uses.
