1990 Ford F700 Bucket Truck
Greetings...where can I find a manual for this truck? The manual company that Ford referred me to has nothing available. I assume everything's out of print & my hope is to get lucky in a garage sale or ebay, but maybe someone knows elsewhere??
Really, I am looking for anyone with some knowledge of this truck. I have searched the threads on here & found some useful info already (like decoding the VIN...etc). So if you possibly know anything specifically, I thank you in advance for any comments or info.
here's the deal:
1990 Ford F700 with the 429 industrial V8 [429-4V], 5speed manual tranny
VIN: 1FDNF77K9LVA49527 (supposedly an invalid VIN at the auto parts stores...but don't laugh, Autozone has been the ONLY place I could get parts. Napa = nothing).
GVWR = 24K
Type GVM: F77240
Body: BK8
WB = 171
Axle = 58
Tranny: Eaton-Fuller: TA-677-007103, Made in Brazil
E9HT7004DA, Model: FS4005, Serial: 86110409
PTO: Chelsea, Dana Corp; Chelsea, Mich.
431X WE WXW 3X6
I've put a lot into the truck but I got it for a bargain (most tree guys say "A bargain bucket truck is a BAD idea."....sure lol) so it is what it is.
thanks again all!!!

thank you for the reply....unfortunately, the Napa Auto Parts here in Winter Haven, FL has been useless. The clerks have told me they only carry parts for up to F550, which seemed absurd since they supply so many commercial parts to major repair centers here.
Napa told me my VIN was invalid as well lol so that went no where. When they manually searched for the truck, the only thing that came up was a fuel filter replacement...oddly enough, I had already came in with the previous fuel filter to get a new one. Even when I search Napa online - nothing.
Autozone has been on point with parts. Not everything, but some important ones like an alternator! The voltage regulator for the truck is Ford's most common model luckily, so they stocked that. AZ had the ignition coil in stock also - very nice!
thanks again!

look up number dummy he either has or knows where you can buy a parts list on CD.
I think. 1989 might be the last year. If so I'll still get it as I don't think there are a lot of changes till 94 when Ford put Cummins engines in place of their diesels.
Even though they probably out of print There are Service manuals on eBay from time to time.
I over the Bargain Bucket truck comment.

awesome!
A parts list would be amazing...even if I couldn't capitalize 100% on it, my mechanic sure could!
Yeah, the "professional tree men" in Central FL would look down on my purchase...safety is number one & I agree, but 1990 isn't really that old and I saw a lot of potential left in this truck. It may not be a money making machine yet, but it's damn close lol
The $25K 15-year old bucket trucks are still out of my reach haha.

Just remember it might not be 100% correct for a 1990

Thank you for the vote of confidence lol we've been running the boom & truck pretty regularly over the past year and all has went great! It's really turned into my most reliable truck after replacing all wires & hoses lol. I've been trying to find the correct transmission for it but it's proved pretty costly. The Ford dealer in Bartow, FL can get my 4X4 tranny / Transfer case for $7K! My local tranny guy can't even get one that cheap...not to mention he's quoting around $3K to install in case of custom fabricating. I currently can't go over 45mph due to wrong gearing but it's a superb tranny & clutch. Worst part is Ford dealer refuses to give me part # so the local Ford medium duty salvage yards claim they can't help. I'll keep searching though...

Thank you for the info Numberdummy - it is greatly appreciated! I'll look closer at the VIN TAG & see if I've recorded some erroneously or if the info is just to worn to read. I'll photograph the tag as well. Do you possibly have ANY WAY to look up the 5-speed tranny that I have in the truck currently? If I could figure out WHAT it goes to, I could market it for sale & possible recoup some cash for buying the RIGHT Tranny/Tcase. When this truck belonged to CE POWER they had an "inside job" and the tranny/tcase was stolen, "somehow." After talking to the Ford dealer, I see why. The core on that unit combo is over $1500! They found the suitable 2wd manual tranny & plugged it in, despite incorrect gearing. I've had someone recommend re-gearing the 5-speed but I can't fathom spending big bucks on it unless it is to restore it to correct form...not to mention I have the front driveshaft & front axle ready to go for 4wd still.
thanks again!!!

Future reference on purchasing equipment
Not to put down the equipment that makes your money, I'm a tree guy too. I noticed that you mentioned you couldn't afford the 25k 15 year old trucks. If you happen to be in need of equipment then I suggest checking out jjkane. This is where we've been sourcing our equipment. Can't tell you what bucket we've got as it's not a ford and i'm not to ecstatic about that myself, but it was a good deal and I happened to be there for it. Example our truck was 11 years old and we got it for 17k similar in style to the one in your profile pic and it only had 63k miles. Now back to fords. We've got the 97 f700 chip truck with the 11' bed on it. Just wish the darn thing was 4 Wheel drive. It's hilly country where we operate and when it get wet... well you get the picture, heavy truck wieghed down on wet ground trying to pull up hill (not a pretty picture). Just thought i'd share some info for a fellow treeman! Good luck with your truck!
