Thanks to everyone. - Just to be clear, we are OK at the moment. The fires are both north and south of me. So for now, we are packed up, but waiting it out.
I was really giving a shout-out to other FTE'rs whom I know live in areas where the evacuations have been. There have been hundreds of homes lost and they have very little containment because of the winds. Many Many homes lost. Tough phone calls to receive when you know them......
Thanks Again,
Ernie
Hey Ernie,
Glad to know you're ok. I may need you to swing through San Diego and get my daughter on your way out.
J/k. She's ok at the moment, she lives in the middle of the city away from the fires, for now. I told her to wrap up in wet towels and run for the beach. (it would be kind of a humorous sight).
My gosh I feel for you all in the areas of Ca on fire. Can't imagine what that must be like for you. At least with our tornados they just come along and smack ya, then they are gone. They don't just go on and on. My fingers are crossed for you and yours. Joe
It shows how crazy this fire is. I went to work thinking everyone was OK, I get a call around noon and the wife says the fire has jumped the freeway and the wind is blowing in our direction. Two street over, police are evacuating homes once again. Luckily they threw everything at this fire to get it under control. Three days of this, and my nerves are rattled, and its not over yet. They did say my kids could go back to school tomorrow... that's a good sign.
Hey all I'm OK i live about 4 miles from the nearest active fire. Rancho San Diego has some evacutions going on. I'm packed just in case. I drive through the whole burn area of the Harris fire on the way to work. It is a 27 mile trip from home to work all but the first few miles are now burn area. Its really eerie quiet today. The whole skyline has been brown all day but blue sky above. Now that it's starting to get dark the horizon glows orange here and there. Say a prayer for the firefighters they are our heros.
We finally heard from sis in law about 6 locally. She was back home from her daughter's in Chula Vista.
Cobra, glad to hear you and everyone else are ok....so far.
Me and my wife have the day off today. We seen on the news that 1,000,000 people have been told to leave there home's since the fire's have started. I hope all you guys are OK and your families. I know it would be hard to leave your home's but please do what they tell you to do. They just said 70,000 home's has been lost, so please do what they tell you guys to do. Our prayers will be with all of you.
Tough 2nd night - Sleeping in shifts. Yes, the evacuation involves about a million homes but the losses (at least in San Diego) are roughly 2000-2500. Losing my son-in-law this morning so he can be with his family. So I'll be going it alone. Once you leave Valley Center, they won't let you back in. Even though I'm not supposed to be here the Sheriffs come by every hour and wave. So I guess I'm OK. I have all of the large Welding Tanks, about 10ea. 20lb. tanks of Propane and Gasoline tied up to a tree away from the house. Probably makes me look like the Unibomber...
Winds have picked up pretty well and it's heading my way again. I'm really tired. I can only imagine how the Firefighters feel.
Glad to hear from you other folks in my neck of the woods that are doing fine. Charlie, I was likewise wondering how it was going in El-Cajon. Glad you missed it so far. Not fun
I'm at work today South tip of Otay Lake. Things looked pretty calm today. The north edge of the Harris fire is over a couple hills from my place so were OK. The leading edge (west) of the fire has all but burned itself out so Chula Vista is spared. I'm not sure how things are in Rancho San Diego (north edge of the fire) still burning as of 5:30 this morning. It was quite a sight to watch Mt San Miguel burn overnight. I know it's hard for many to get a grasp of what we're going through but think of waiting out a tornado for three days. Floods can compare but you know if you live in a certain area and a flood comes you pretty much know your screwed. with this fire its hit and miss and if your evacuated you just don't know until you either get to go back or your home address is listed on the burned list on the EOS website. This is tough for us all I'm not directly affected but I know a ton of people who are and I'm tired of being tired and scared. God speed to you Eman hope all stays well for you. Rich.
Fox News reported that some A-wipe was caught setting a fire up in the hills. Saw him from a helicopter and nailed him. They also reported the FBI had a memo to be on the lookout for; you guessed it- terrorists involved in something like this!
It wouldn't surprise me because this is exactly the kind of thing they would try, seeing as how airport security has ramped up.
I'm in no way suggesting they have done this, but it just seems to be covering too much area to be random. In ww2 the Japanese sent balloons aloft to try to catch the gulf stream and ride to the west coast and start fires. I have no idea how they were supposed to crash and burn, tho, but it actually worked in some places and not all balloons were found.

Reason: additional word
Came into work this morning to Disneyland and I can see the fires have broken over the crest and are heading more inlind to us. But today we have no winds and are expected to have a break in the weather after today.
Only 30% contained and the Interstate 5 was shut down for about 4hrs this morning around Camp Pen. That's all for the OC for now ... but we again are the lucky ones.
