Was told to evacuate at 0430 this morning. The Evac Center is about 1/8 mile from my house. People are already stacked up at my place. So I guess I'm at the Evac Center........ The dots in the Photo are ash. We are all packed up and ready so no worries.
I have a fully programmed Police/Fire Digital Scanner so I'm pretty well informed. I know last night over 500 homes were lost. The wind is worse today.
Eman, we have a sister in law(widow) in the Scripps Ranch area that we tried to contact last night with no luck. Have a niece and family in Chula Vista that we're worried about, too. If you're able to read this and respond qwe sure would like to know something.
Ernie, our prayers are with you today. Another fire broke out last night here in Santa Clarita and now the fire has made a complete circle. The fire has gone more north from us towards Val Verde and we escaped having to do an evacuation. I saw San Diego got hit really hard. They keep saying the fire is laying low by us, but with this crazy fire, nothing is a sure thing! Here's a shot from my backyard.
Luckly for me I'm in North Orange and not south. On the way to the office at Disneyland I can see the fires over the crest but I know, for now, I'm safe.
It's smelly but no ash yet. My prayers are too the gents in San Diego right now. I remember those SD fires of about three years ago. WOW. I've never seen homes go so quick in a residential area like that. Makes you really think ...
My wife said Fox news had just talked to a fireman that can't remember the last time he slept! And he gets one meal a day!
Now that is sad. Those of us who live elsewhere have no idea what you guys are going thru out there.
I was stationed in Sacto and Fairfield for 2 1/2 years total in the '50s and '60s so I have a slight idea. Only slight, tho.
Ed, when I heard that three fires were converging in santa clarita last night I didn,t know if we would hear from you today. I,m really glad you and your family are OK.
Ed - I know Santa Clarita well. I was raised in the Valley. You live in a very fire dangerous area. God's grace be with you.
Kid1936 - Scripps has been evacuated since early yesterday. Some parts of Scripps are fairly open and safe while other parts are very overgrown and fire-dangerous. Scripps burned terribly about 3 years ago. They have a great set of evac Centers and I'm sure she is just fine. Scripps had hours of warning and I don't believe there have been any reports of harm to people. This web-site may give you some numbers to call:
Chula Vista is a very large area and much of it is wide open without much to burn. They also had a good 8 hours of warning. So I'm sure all is well. I can not get any specific info on home losses except to say they are everywhere in every city affected.
Thanks everyone for the support. I've never been through anything like this before either. I think the worse feeling is helplessness. You just can't do anything. Your vulnerable and litterly have to watch everything you've worked for all your life go up in flames. The fire came within one mile of my house but I think we're good for know. Our thoughts and prayers need to go to the fireguys on the line. They're earning their paychecks right now. Latest count I heard was 900 homes in San Diego. My prayers are with everyone!
Just FYI ... it seems that the news is making these fires in the OC look worse then they are. I know San Diego has it the hardest and the North LA County is starting to get better. The wind is a lot better today but we are suppost to be in the upper 90's today.
In October the upper 90's .. but after today we are going to see a cooling trend. Again, best wishes to our neighbors in the south. God Bless you guys ... if you need hotel evacuation information I have some hotel info for the Anaheim area if any of you need.
Eman, I really appreciate the info. We were visiting in '05 and she showed us where the fire area was before. When you walk out her front door you can see Scripps house on a hill above her house. That close.
Definitely glad to here about Chula Vista, too. Thanks.

Reason: added info
Seen the Irvine fire from the freeway going to work in the AM. Strange when you see electric signs on the freeway giving you evac info. San Diego is pretty bad. I Work in Huntington Beach and can see the looong trail of smoke over head from Arrowhead and the Irvine areas. Santa Ana winds are blowing out to the ocean.
