fluid capacities

well boys, looking to do some preventative maintainance before the cold weather sets in here in CT. im planning on taking my truck somehwere to have the radiator and cooling system flushed and filled with fresh coolant. any particular coolant to use? i know i could probably do this myself, but i dont know how id get rid of all of the old coolant, or catch it for that matter. ill bite the bullet adn pay for this one.
next, im planning on draining and refilling my differentials and transmission. what weight oils and how much for each?? should i wait on the transmission until i do my clutch in the spring? thanks.

Coolant- the normal green is good as well as Ford Gold or Zerex G-05. there are many other but those are the three basics I like to stick to.

Diff oil- each take 3-4 quarts each. i use royal purple 75W140 (I think? Where's Neal he remembers!) This would be a good time to do the 08 rear diff cover! its only $35

Tranny- not sure on capacity but I think the 5 speeds just use regular ATF but I am not positive

The trouble with someone else doing the coolant flush is you don't know how good they are performing the "Flush"...unless you going to watch them or trust them. There are 2 plugs on the bottom side of the block that should be removed to get all the old stuff out. The starter needs to come out to do one side. There is alot of coolant and junk left in the block if this isn't done. OK, I'm done preaching to the chior.

The coolant can be any green or gold. No ORANGE (dexcool). I use the 50-50 mix with deionized water and add SCA's myself or get the precharged coolant.
Coolant Supplemental Additive (SCA)
(Fleetguard) DCA5
(Ford) FW-15/FW-16

Radiator - 23 quarts + 1.5 quarts SCA

Trans - 3.5 quarts Synthetic MERCON ATF XT-2-QDX or MERCON Equivalent

T-case - 4 quarts MERCON ATF

Rear diff - 6.5 pints XY-80W90-QL. For heavy duty towing applications it is recommended that the axle be filled with Synthetic Axle Lubricant 75w140. Add an additional 8oz posi additive to the rear even if the fluid says it's in there.

Front diff - 5.9 pints Premium Rear Axle Lubricant, XY-80W90-QL or -KL or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSP-M2C197-A. I use synthetic here too. Overkill?

Thanks Tim, I got side tracked when I was posting this, prolly lookin for more beer

Yep Joe it's overkill but I can't recall the last time I had an oil related failure. I drive my trucks till they're dead and resurrect them and drive some more

I am using synthetic in my entire driveline including frt axle, and my transmission seems to shift better with the synthetic also. I will probably be using it in my engine when ever I get around to fixing my oil leak so that I can afford to keep it in there.

Synthetic is the only way to go in the Diffs, they take so much abuse for not getting oil changed, why run anything else?
