F800 429

There is a guy that says he has a 429 out of an F800. Just curious if this is guaranteed to have a steel crank or would you have to tear it apart and get some numbers. He says that it has the 'longer' crank. I think I read that this has something to do with the crankshaft snout? What needs to be done to this crank to make it work in a standard 429 block, and how expensive is it? Is there anything else worth anything on this type of engine?? How much would it be worth in running condition??

If it is a 429 it will have a steel crankshaft. The snout on the steel 429 cranks is the same as the cast 370 cranks,so you can't go by that. The crankshaft will fit in a 429 or 460 block the way it is but the snout will need to be turned down and new keyways cut in it . The rear of the crankshaft also needs a custom bushing to accept a torque converter or pilot bushing for car or pick-up tranny.

The oilpan is also a good pan for a 429-460 swap into a 4x4. It is a 10 quart rear sump.

Thanks for the info. I found a really good article regarding these type of cranks on 460.com and what needs to be done to them to make them work in a high performance application. The pan would be nice to utilize. Would this block still be just a 2-bolt block?? Are the cylinder walls any thicker or anything??

Glad you found the other info. I was gonna put a link to that in my post but didn't have time to look it up. The blocks aren't anything special. I used one of the crankshafts in my pulling truck motor for a little more reliability. So for it has worked great.

dont worry that its a 2 bolt block, the 2 bolt mains are fine for 800 horse... anything beyond that- keep a close eye out for cap walk.

Have you built and ran any 800 horse 2 bolt blocks? I know there are some out there but most people building that kind of motor will use an aftermarket 4 bolt block. Rpm's have to be considered also. I have saw 800 horse 4 bolt motors have bearing issues so I wouldn't want to spend the money that 800 HP cost and stick it in a 2 bolt block. My motor might make close to 700 HP and I put 4 bolt Blue Thunder caps on it and used a steel crank for peace of mind.

yep running a little over 900hp on a 2 bolt block, I do run a main girdle and with proper tune I am not having issues with cap walk. I also know I am not he only one pushing 900+hp on factory 2 bolt blocks and not having any trouble with them. I would NOT recommend that with nitrous though and you better know how to tune it and keep detonation out of the engine.
