i need new front rotors for my truck, its a 77 highboy. when i look up the parts there are 2 choices, pre serial Y20001 and post Y20001. my truck falls under the pre 20001 catagory, but heres the problem. when i read all the size info for the pre 20001 it says with a 5.5 in. bolt circle diameter. i thought my truck has 6.5 in BCD. something about this doesnt make sence. the wheels currently on my truck were taken from a 78 f250 and if you look up a 78 rotor it says 6.5 in bcd. is my truck supposed to have a 5.5 and some P.O. swapped something out? or are all the part houses info wrong? btw my truck has a low pinion d44 with the big external hubs, if that helps any. i'm hoping that it is supposed to be a 6.5 BCD because the rotors are about half the price of the ones with the 5.5 BCD.
Pre 97 8 lug trucks (F-250 and 350) are 6.5 bolt circle
Pre 97 5 lug trucks (F-150) are the 5.5 bolt circle.
I think all the F-100's were 5 lug 4.5 bolt circle - if not some may be 5x5.5
Pre 97 8 lug trucks (F-250 and 350) are 6.5 bolt circle
Pre 97 5 lug trucks (F-150) are the 5.5 bolt circle.
I think all the F-100's were 5 lug 4.5 bolt circle - if not some may be 5x5.5
ALL the F100's prior to 1997 are 5 X 5.50 except the 1980/83 F100's which are 5 X 4.50.
Excepting the 1980/83 F100's, all the F100-F150 wheels are the same or will interchange.
1983 = last F100.

The other rotor, which is not supposed to be the one for my truck reads...
Rotor Specifications:

New Surface Thickness: 1.245"

Overall Height: 3.225"
Vented/Solid Design: Vented

Inner Bearing Cup Included?: No

The overall height is different by 0.083”, which isn’t much, but I don’t know if it matters. Other than the overall height and the BCD I see no differences. I guess that means I need the second one. But I’m still left with one question, when if EVER, did ford use an 8 lug 5.5 bolt pattern?
Now, if by some magical occurrence of events my truck has an 8 lug 5.5 bolt pattern, then a wheel from a 78 f250 will NOT fit correct?
The website can say what it wants. Unless someone put a 97 or newer axle in your truck your bolt circle is 8x6.5. Even if it was a 97 or newer the bolt pattern still isn't a 5.5 bolt circle.
Also - just for reference the 8 lug pattern is the same as chevy's & Dodges from way back when until today. Only Ford got the "we should change to metric" brain fart...

The 7 lug fords are the newer heavy duty F-150 lug pattern. Only offered on the heavy tow package one. And yes - I think they are metric as well. try finding aftermarket rims for those...

ford switching to the metric 8 lug with the superduty really made me mad.. sincei have a few sets of 8 lug rims and tires.. i refuse to buy a superduty since they have that metric lug. what diud ford gain by this? it just negitive as far as i can see..
Not sure where you got that information, but my '08 3500HD Silverado still uses 8x6.5 and I'm not aware of any older Chev's ever switching to 8x170. The offset, however, would make any of these factory wheels undesireable for the older iron, imho.
Yeah - which trucks went metric. As far as I know and have seen the new chevy's are all 8x6.5 still. As was said the offset isn't great for our trucks, plus the center bore on the wheels won't fit over our D60 hubs...
While we are on the hijack about talking about rims, you need to pay attention to the hub diameter holes of the rims you want to buy. GM and dodge are smaller than the fords, and the fords got bigger as the years went on. 4-15/16" is the one that should fit everything, but will place all of the load on the lugnuts instead of the hub, so watch out
