I'm trying to locate the upper parking brake cable for my 76 4WD F250, and I'm not having much luck. I checked through all my usual suppliers , and the only site that has the upper is LMC. What concerns me, is they don't have a listing for 1976 F250. They have 77 and up for 4wd F250, and 73-79 in 4WD F100/F150.
The LMC part number for the '77 F250 4WD is 45-3845. Sublist says it fits "Models from serial #Y40,001 to #Y60,000". IIRC, the "Highboy" is everything up to serial #Y20,001 which puts that cable outside the SN range of my truck.
Through a thread from a couple years ago, I found the OEM part number; D6TZ-2853-D. Quick google search returns 2 locations that have NOS parts, Dennis Carpenter and Green Sales companies. I plan on calling them tomorrow, but I'm worried about the cost. From what I've seen in the past, NOS parts are considerably more expensive than aftermarket. Is there anyone who makes an repro, or am I regulated to NOS parts? If I have to buy NOS then so be it. But just like a lot of other people, I'm not made of money
Sometimes NOS parts prices aren't too bad. It all depends on the vendor. Inline Tube can manufacture a custom cable that is made to OEM specs but I have feeling a NOS part from Green or DC might be cheaper in this case. I know you'll get it a lot quicker.
I searched the Ford Dealers and found that Bob Allen has 3 of the cables but trust me, no matter what DC or Green wants for the cable, thats going to look real cheap compared to Allen .
I got all my parking brake cables from Green Supply, as I have a 76 Highboy also. Don't remember exactly what I paid, but was around $140.00 for all three. They are not NOS, but rather an damn close reproduction. Good quality though. I am happy with them.
My guess would be there's not enough demand for a business to tool up to make them and then the law of supply and demand kicks in. They have one, you need one. Just how bad do you need it? The worse you need it, the more it's going to cost.
