waste gate
I have a 1997 7.3L Just bought a 2002 excursion. My Q is at about 50 to 55. I hear what I think is the waste gate opening. Just sound like air blowing. Is that normal. I think I hear at lower speeds too.

You're hearing the turbo doing its job. When it up-shifts, do you hear a nice "PSSSSHHHHH...."?? That's the turbo bleeding off the excess boost since the engine no longer needs it, but the turbo is still spinning like it was before the shift.
