1982 E350 engine swap

I am looking for advice on pulling the 460/C6 combo that is currently under the hood on my 82' E350 El Dorado conversion dually. Will the engine come out thru the front after pulling the carburator for clearance? I did a 80' model E150 engine job about 15 years ago but it was a 351W/C6 powered machine and I remember just barely clearing the crossmember coming out the front.

It almost looks like it would come out the bottom by dropping the tailshaft down then sliding everything back and out. Im not sure if the heads will clear the floorboard though.

What is the best way to get the 460/C6 out on one of these?

I would drop the transmission, take the carburetor off and replace it with a lifting plate, close couple the boom of the engine host to the lifting plate and take it out the front.

Thanks, I was hoping you weren't going to say that. I remember the 351 was very tight coming out, but I guess it will have to be. They probably put the body on the chassis last when building them at the factory.

I have taken my 460 out the front of my 82 E350 like I said above two times and left the transmission on a transmission jack.

Thanks again. Off the subject but are you still running the 16.5 wheels on yours. I put flat plate 16's on mine and bored out the centers to clear the Ford hubs. I haven't been able to drive it yet due to the 460 breaking an oil pump shaft. One place said it would break the wheel studs off but I don't see any reason it would be any different than an aftermarket wheel that centers off the studs.

Have you heard of anyone else converting these trucks (duallys) to 16's and if they were sucessful or not? The 16.5 tire choices are pretty slim these days.

My 460 went in with the C-6 no problem. With the carb off I still couldn't lift it with a plate. That got me as far as the plate. I then had to rest the trans on a floor jack and relift from the front of the engine down low. It then rolled the rest of the way in. I have the whole series in my picture gallery.

Thanks, the pics. were helpful. Maybe its just me, but your truck appears to have more clearance above the carb. than mine. My trk. has the stock low profile intake, and the very short factory air cleaner. I am pretty sure the high rise in your pictures wouldn't clear my dash. I'll look agaiin when I get home.
