Dealer says its a 360, i want to know for sure, the truck was orig. equipped with a 300 six, but now it has this big block. Numbers are as follows...Intake Manifold...D5TE 9245 . Cylinder heads...D2EAA. Engine Block...D4TE and below the oil filter it looks like it says L 2 9 there may be more numbers but i cant make them out. Thanks alot..f100
Bad news first: You can't tell by the outside. You must measure the crank stroke. If you can see the back end of the crank: the 390/410/428 will have a square notch where the flywheel bolts on. The 360 will have a half-moon notch.
The stroke of the 360 is 3.5 the 390 is 3.78 the 410/428 is 3.984
Some say you can measure the stroke with a dowel in the spark plug hole.
The engine, from the block number appears to be a '74 360 truck engine. A killer block reinforced virtually identically to a 428 CJ engine. Build as is for a hi-rpm screamer or put in a 390 crank, rods and pistons for a 390 conversion. I'm building one with 67 GT heads as a 360GT. The front drivers side of the block should have a reverse '501' instead of '352'.
