Hey, talking about the cross over kit, would it make any sense to install three total cross over flex lines instead of the single? I think there are three sets of plugs on the manifold side of the heads: one set in front, one set in the middle and the last at the rear of the heads.

Thanks,

You absolutely do NOT want to connect all six of these plugs together. The middle two are on the oil side... not the fuel side!

Therefore, by cross-connecting the front passenger port with the rear driver port, you have balanced out the pressures on both ends of the fuel rails for maximum fuel flow efficiency (given the existing OEM line size, fuel port restrictors, pump flow capacity, etc.).

Pete,
He's talking about the high pressure oil ports, as in the the HPX x 3 instead of just one cross over in front of the turbo.

I don't think it would buy you much -- once you have the two heads equal, they can't get "more equal". That's all you're doing with the first one. It's not for flow (like with the fuel Cross-Connect Kit that Pete's thinking about).

You're right, Joe. I missed that little detail.

There are some folks, though, who have done the high pressure crossover hose on the oil side before doing much else in the way of quieting down cackle, and they report noticeable noise improvements. It goes back to something I posted yesterday I believe, don't remember if it was this or another thread... It almost seems to not matter much which cackle treatment you do first, you find a very noticeable improvement (some more than others). But like you said, Joe, once you've done a couple of them, the gains are harder to detect by ear with each successive cackle mod.

Thanks Pete! and everyone else that contributed to cure me of my ignorance and confusion!! i feel like i understand things much better now. The only point that i am still a bit grey on is the switch to the 5w-40 oil. why will that help with engine noise issues at all?

It really only helps when cold (and I mean the engine here, but when it's very cold outside it helps a lot more). Since the 5W-40 is thinner before warm-up, it flows faster and helps keeps things quiet (among other benefits).

What Joe said!! I have even noticed a significant difference between the Amsoil and the Schaeffer's 5w40 synthetics, the Schaeffer's providing an even "stronger" and "smoother" sound with a slightly deeper "tone" at idle. I haven't tried the Rotella yet, but want to just to have the comparison data before I settle in on which oil to stay with.

These changes can be heard even though I have already done the CCK and the in-tanks, so the cahnge is very real. Cold starts are excellent.
