83 f150 problems

i have an 83 f150 i just bought used. when i bought it, it needed a choke on it. since im in florida it didnt seem like a big deal. however i noticed the carburetor was leaking so i got it rebuilt. when he rebuilt it he put on an electronic choke. where do i plug in the wire from the choke? he said into the ignition fuse but i dont have a diagram of my fuse panel and cant find one online. also when i get it running it will run for a little and tehn shoot out a flame from the carbeuretor and then shut off. would that be because its getting too much gas? another problem is i have trouble getting it to start. it will turn over but not spark. the distributer looks good though and so do the plugs. what else could it be?

i forgot to mention but the guy i got the truck from put in a rebuilt engine. the body is 83 but i dont know the engine age. would it be engraved on the engine somewhere? its a 302 v8 with a 2 bbl carb. automatic the last thing i can think of right now is that the pcv hose isnt connected to anything. i think thats a problem. someone told me to hook it to the carb but i dont know where to.

If it's a factory style choke, it does hook with a white/black wire to the "s" terminal on the back of the alternator. If it's an aftermarket choke unit, it should go to the fuse box, but it may work on the alternator too.

When the engine is cold, take the aircleaner off, go in and push the gas to the floor once. Go out and the choke door on the top of the carb should be totally shut. If it's not, then loosen the round black choke housing on the passenger side of the carb, and turn it in the "richer " direction. You may have to hold the throttle open while you adjust it.

Once it's shut, try to start the engine. It should start, and fast idle. Watch the choke door on top of the carb. It should slowly open as the engine warms up. If it opens too fast, and the engine runs rough and stalls, then you need to turn the round black thing more in the "richer " direction. If it stays shut, and the engine starts bogging, then turn the housing in the "leaner " direction.
