The squeaky wheel needs the grease!

OK, this isn’t the worst problem in the world, but it’s starting to annoy the heck out of me! My steering wheel squeaks. It does it regardless if the truck is cold, or warm, summer or winter. I’m tempted to spray a little WD-40 where the squeak is (where the wheel turns), but with my luck, I’ll ruin something. I don’t want to start taking things apart either, because of my irrational fear of the airbag exploding in my face.

Does anyone have the same problem? And is there a quick and easy fix?

Thanks!
Peter

if you want to be real safe, get a can of crc contact cleaner that is plastic safe and non-flammable. that way you don't have to worry about messing up any wires or the plastic and it will lubricate where it is sprayed.

I would imagine it is the contacts behind the wheel that control horn and cruise buttons. Mine does the same thing. If you ever remove the wheel you can put white lith grease on it or replace the contacts. Not sure if the spray will fix it.

I can't find the link now, but sometime way back, I think I remember another member having the same problem and it turned out to be plastic on plastic squeak. Might want to look for some plastic that's two close something.

I understand where your coming from. I haven't pulled a steering wheel since I got a truck with air bags. The plastic on plastic sounds like a good place to start. The CRC is a cleaner that won't hurt any electrical connections, so if you find one that won't hurt plastic I wouldn't be scared of that either.

Good luck and let us know how you fix it so we can file it away for future reference.
