dyno'd my truck today.

went to the off road expo in pomona today and they had a free chassis dyno. so i said what the hell and had my truck dyno'd.

287 hp @ 2600 rpm
and 630 ft/lbs @ 2450 rpm

ive got intake, 4" exhaust, and a dieselsite 6pos tuner. (i was on the second to last setting for the pulls, i think a 120 tune)

i want 400 horse .

i know the the pmr i shouldnt go much past 500, but would low 400's be alright w/ the pmr's?
what should be my next steps? turbo? bigger sticks?

im running the 4r100 w/ a factory tech valvebody and a deep pan. i know the trans might be my weak link, but im not worried about putting in a bts or ats when my stocker goes.

Possibly bigger sticks. Check out Beans. I went DP tuner and made 311 and 640. I used to have a TS chip. I was hard headed. I can't say enough about the DP tunes. I wonder what I will make if/when I step up to some sticks.

Edit: whooops, got ahead of myself there. Where's my manners? Congrats. Those are good RW #s at any rate. Bet the truck runs pretty good.

Get stage 1 single-shots & have Jody get you tuned for them -- they make more power on less oil, but you might have to invest in fuel system upgrades. Check 'em out:

(thanks to Kris for passing that along!)

which do you think would be better to upgrade first, turbo or injectors?

ill do both, but would rather do one at a time since they do cost like 2k each.
i mainly tow w/ this truck (about a 9k lb trailer) and want some more power for the hills. i figure about 400 rwhp and a regear will make it perfect for me.

I'd do the turbo first, but the reman Stage 1 Single Shots are only $625... They should get you real close to 400HP with Jody's tunes and a turbo upgrade.

I am aiming for 375RWHP on mine...

I am just about to do big oil and a regulated return fuel system and in tank mods.... So add those to my list of mods below....

Once those are done I plan to run the truck on the dyno and see where I'm at, then make the decision on what injectors to run....

I would say drop the sticks in first and get Jody to tune for them... then see where you are at... I am going to try and keep my stock turbo for as long as possible...

I think I am planning 160cc single shots with nozzle upgrades ( stage II ).... The dyno will answer that question though

Come on guys, don't you know that "sticks" go in cummins'? There's a little more than just a stick to a PSD injector.

Do you have the 3.73 axle?
Your thoughts about the regear will make the biggest difference if that is the case.
It will also take a lot of the strain off of the trans and driveshaft.

ya i think the regear will help the most for my towing. as is if i can keep my rpms at about 2500 i can pull most hills. its just that @ that rpm im either going 90mph (4th) or about 65mph (3rd). and w/ if i can sustain that speed (which i dont due to safety) i loose all momentum and have to plug along in second.

i think that 4.30 will put me @ the perfect rpm in 3rd to criuse about 55 to 60. which is what i want to be pulling @.

all the above is with a 315/70r16 tire that measures 33".

the more power is mostly just for fun.

i have 3.73 axle ratio, and if i pull it out of overdrive, i loose all turbo surge runnin hills at 55mph. i could sustain that speed on any hill i wanted with my ratio and the only thing limiting me from going faster are the EGT's. i would think that you should check to see which ratio is in your truck before you go to 4:30's and could possibly be dissapointed. my tire size measures 295/75/r16 so we are both right in the same area on tire height. if you got any questions about my setup ask away.

I’ve got 3.73's. (per the axle id tag, and calc of speed and rpm). <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

and for me w/ my tires, (which measure exactly 33") @ 55 in 3rd im only about 2k rpm. and at that rpm i cant sustain that speed while towing. if i can get the rpms to 2400 or so i can pull my load all day long. its just that w/ my gears that’s at about 65mph and sometimes (pulling hills) that’s too fast for the road/traffic conditions.<o></o>

<o></o>

i only put about 10k miles a year on my truck and 95% of that is towing, so im not too concerned about being too low of a gear. hell i might even go w/ a 4.56. but i think that a 4.30 would be better choice for what i want to do.

whats the actual measurement of your tire dia? the 295 is a 33" tire where as my 315 is a 35".
i had contemplated throwing on a set of stock size tires for when i tow, but that wouldnt be nearly as cool.
