The sending unit on my '97 PSD, does it report directly to the instument or does it go through the computer?
My reason is I want to install a "Real" temp gauge and either want to use that same sender or install a different one. I don't know if the stock gauge and a after market gauge can use the same sender at the same time. (?) anyone know??
Yep, goes right to the gage. The OEM sender has these values:
74 ohms cold, 9.4 ohms hot.
That's all I could find in the service manual, no reference to temp vs ohms. Maybe you could find another spot for the additional sender. I've never had 2 gages on 1 sender but I don't think it would work. The extra gage has to add resistance (ohms) to the circuit.
like Jim said the sender goes right to the gauge. The computer only cares about oil temp. Its pretty easy to hook up the aftermarket gauge. There is a port on the drivers side of the water pump right under the thermostat. thats where I hooked my gauge up.
That sounds like the place, after cooler. Maybe 2 readings before and after cooler.LOL. Well let's not get crazy. I wonder how much it differs from the coolant temp?
