I am going to be ordering a TW chip tomorrow. I'm going to get a 4 position chip and was wandering what kind of tunes ya'll like the most. My truck is stock for now except for tymer intake and 3in dp to 4in straight pipe. I am just trying to get a few ideas on what to tell Tony tomorrow.
stock, econo, tow, race. Instead of a stock you could get a no start or high idle.
thanks, that is kind of what I was thinking. hopefully I will have to be shipping it back to him in a few months to get it retuned for some injectors and a few other supporting mods.
i have stock, high idle, daily driver (rarely use it), tow, simulate stage I performance, race... i would definitely suggest getting stock, tow, econo, race
I don't understand the difference between stock and daily driver.
I have economy, high idle, tow 1, tow 2, big HP, High HP
I would suggest 2 HP settings and the economy (it runs better than stock and better gas mileage with no smoke). I wouldn't suggest the no start because if you flip it to it while driving you are rolling with no power. I like my high idle and my heavy tow alot.

ok here's a brief explanation of each tune
my stock tune is... stock lol.. still fast since it's how it was before the chip....
high idle... i don't use this tune unless i just turned it on so i don't know where any of the shift points are or how much power it has.. but my guess is everything except the idle is stock
the only difference i've found in the daily driver tune and stock is that it shifts at about 41-42 instead of 36mph... but it shifts back down at 35... and it has more engine cackle and less exhaust note (if that makes any sense) also it's smokeless... also locks the torque converter when it shifts into 3rd
the towing tune is also smokeless unless you lug it up a hill (haven't floored it in that tune really) and the towing tune also shifts up at 41-42... also shifts back down at 35... the towing tune also has almost no engine cackle what-so-ever but lots of exhaust note... this tune has lots of mid-range torque to play around with also it locks the torque converter the second it shifts to 3rd
the stage I performance tune can lug lots of smoke and haze a pretty dark haze once the turbo spools up (i want to get rid of that haze with this intercooler..) and this tune is SMOOTH AND QUICK!! the only thing i don't like about this tune is that it doesn't lock the torque converter until 36 mph (it shifts up at 36 unless i have OD off)
THE BIG TUNE!!!! scary fast and lots of smoke! let's just say if i lug it in OD at about 1250 rpms i get sucked into my seat... and when you break the tires loose... they're loose!! i'm trying to get this tune to be a haze like my 2nd highest tune is once the turbo spools up
I guess my next question is what is the difference in economy and daily driver? It seems econ may be in between stock and DD? Just a guess.
When you said the tow doesn't smoke that confused me. I have 2 tow settings and I have only used the one for 15,000 lbs so far and yes it rolls the smoke during accel and up hill. moderate fumes at idle.

i think the daily driver tune is probably a little more powerful than the econo tune...
my tow tune has more power than stock but no smoke unless i lug it... but i haven't actually towed with the towing tune yet... i will be towing with it a couple times this winter for snowmobiling... and remember that i haven't really floored it in the towing tune yet either, i rarely ever get above 2300-2400 rpms in the towing tune since you don't have to to beat traffic with that mid-range grunt it has... when i wanna go fast i use the stage I tune.. when i wanna kill myself i use the big tune
My big tow tune somehow gives awesome power and keeps the pyro remarkably low. TW rules IMO
i've yet to hit over 1000* (post turbo) even in the fast tunes the towing tune keeps me at a comfortable 600ish at 70mph with 2-3 psi of boost the stage I tune keeps me at EXACTLY the same!! haha it's just a lot more responsive when i wanna kick it up to 80 to pass someone
thanks for the info guys. I just got done ordering my chip. I am getting 5 position with stock, high idle, economy, towing, and racing. thanks for all the suggestions.

You need to move that probe PRE turbo, pronto. Post turbo is no where near as accurate as pre turbo.
