I'm looking at getting a gauge setup for my '06 f250 psd. I really want to go with the overhead windsheild option, but all the ones I see say for up to '05 my. Is there really a difference between 05 and 06? I was looking at the rearview mirror today and doesn't look like there would be enough room between the roof and mirror. Is this the only difference, and if so couldn't I just remove and replace the mirror further down to fit? Any input on this would be great as I'm getting ready to make a decision soon and get this going. Next stop-Spartan tuned SCT!
I was trying to figure out how an over head would fit my 99, but apparently they do. I think thats what i'm going to get for my truck, I really don't like the A-pilar gauge pods the just are to big of a blind spot and my truck has to many of them already. Some on here should be able to help, I personally don't see what the changed in 06 that woud be different than an 05.
Yeah, I haven't actually seen one setup. I just don't really like the a-pillar set up, plus I use the handle every time I get in and out. I've thought about fabing something up to fit in the drivers side "glovebox". The only problen with that is you really have to take your eyes off the road to look at the gauges. I'd also only be able to get 2 gauges in the glovebox. Just not sure what I want to do. I like things to be clean and not-so-obvious. The other good thing about the overhead is that I don't think it can really be seen from the outside, especially since I have that portion tinted. Just one less thing to draw attention from those you don't want it from.
Reefman, don't know if you have heard of it or not, but I have the MSD Dashhawk and really like it. It is a digital set of gauges that plugs into your OBD II port and gives you readouts on all kinds of parameters. I have mine mounted in a pod on the a pillar just below the grab handle and I am really happy with it. Here is the thread I started on it a while ago, and have tried to keep up to date. I am actually a little behind as there have been some updates lately that I haven't had a chance to write about. Look through this thread if you are interested and feel free to ask me any questions you might have.
I had seen that and have followed your thread. The only problem is that they don't yet have a pyro sensor, correct? That's mostly what I want, but tranny and fuel pres. are nice too. I haven't really looked at them because of the pyro., but approx. how much do they run? So far I'm leaning towards the di pricol gauges, as they come really close to the factory look. I know that with the dashawk you get many more parameters and all in one convienient(?) unit. So many choices it gets numbing sometimes..lol. Thanks Beerstalker, now I've got more to think about and consider, I thought you were trying to help! Nah, just kiddin', I appriciate the input and will probably look further into it now.
I have an 06 and I have the overhead gauge pod, I didn't mess with moving the rear mirror, so I just moved the pod over to the left, no problems with site and it doesn't look bad at all(atleat not to me and since I'm the one looking at it all the time thats what counts I guess).
While the EGT sensor for the Dashhawk isn't in public release yet, there are quite a few of us with preliminary ones running and it works great. The guy in their forums has said that it has been released to production, and I think they have the first batch of them in. They were aiming to have them out this month, but I think the date might be slipping again. I would definitely think they would have it out by the end of the year.
As far as cost goes, the Dashhawk is normally around $300 but I have a link I can give out by PM to get it for $250. The a-pillar mount can be found for less than $50 with shipping.
Thanks Stalker(kinda sounds creepy when you say it that way), I'll have to give it another look, just not sure if I want a digital setup. I kinda like the way traditional gauges look, but I do like the versatility of the digital units.
As for the livewire, still haven't heard enough good news about it to consider it. There's even been a vendor or two who don't recomend it still and they sell the things. Thanks for all the help so far, it's greatly welcomed and appriciated.
I personally use the livewire and have not a had any problems. I have many to happy customers that use them. There was some early issues with the screens, but those have been fixed.
