12 volt electric blanket??

Has anyone tried these? Do they heat ok? http://www.roadtrucker.com/12-volt-heaters-blankets-sheets-1.htm
I am thinking of using one of these blankets for a redneck heated seat in my old bumpside. The conversion kits cost a little dough and they do not cover the whole seatback. I am thinking of draping one of these over the seat until I have the time and dough to do a proper conversion.

Haven't used the 12v blanket, but have used the 12v heated mattress pad, and it worked great!! Bought it in Alaska, and never had an issue. Let us know how it turns out!! Ha! Ha!

I had one that I bought at Target for around $25 or so. It would get reasonably warm but not quite enough to keep me warm on those cold winter nights that I would nap in the car between shifts at work. I got it on Christmas Eve and by the middle of January it quit working. It has a fuse in it but it is still good so I am guessing a wire in the blanket broke. The blanket itself is fleece and is pretty warm alone.

I may see if I can find a 150 watt electric blanket in 120 volt since the hybrids have 120 volt plugs but only have 150 watt limit.

What about one of those massaging seat pads that heat also, They run on 12 volt 1000ma wall wart so wiring in a cigarette plug wouldn't ba problem.

Most electric blankets, including 12v, are nor designed to be sat on or under pressure. Doing so breaks a wire or creates a short and then it doesn't work anymore and is very hard to fix.

For a seat, I would count on one season of use for a cheap blanket.

Thats interesting. I always sleep on top of my elecrtric blankets. The blanket is more effective that way as heat rises. Also, it can be ran at a much lower temperature. I have never had a problem doing this. jd

That one season should get me through georgias short winter fine I am hoping. I probably average 25 miles per week at the moment so it will have very little use.
