Does anyone have an Ozone Generator for getting rid of odors?
I've got a nasty smell in my pickup cab from, what appears to be, a short visit from mice. The pickup was on the farm for many years before I bought it, and there was only one spot (about 6"x3") on the back wall and carpet behind the ext. cab rear seat. It actually didn't smell until I scrubbed some icky stuff out of there. Getting an ozone generator would be cheaper than buying new carpet and plastic interior trim.
I had borrowed an ozone machine about 8 years ago to do a couple of my cars and it worked great. However, I don't have access to borrow one, now. Can't find any locals that rent the machine. Taking the truck to an auto detailing shop is not an option as I need the truck daily.
Is there a specific brand out there that you fellas would recommend? At this point, I want one to handle doing vehicles and maybe a room or two in my apartment. I've seen some "industrial" machines for under $200, but reviews are really mixed on quality and ability.
Yeah my wife tells me Febreeze works good. Use it on our skunked dog. It will make your truck smell a bit foofy tho.
You can buy cheap ozone makers that plug into the cigarette lighter and seem to work OK. You can find them at many auto parts stores and strangely I bought mine at Big 5 sporting goods. Mine is about the size of a short cigar and glows neon orange and buzzes a bit, I paid something like $10 5 years ago and still use it. It works overnight and seems to leave my car with that "spring rain storm" smell, whatever, at least it smells better than what my grande burrito lunch does to the interior. I hear the larger units, say paperback book size work better and clean the air faster than my tiny ozone machine.
CAUTION, these things will overheat and die if you leave them running in a car on a hot day so use them only in cool weather or at night. A side effect of these is that they make dust settle out of the air so your interior may have more than usual dust on it.
I havent used the ozone generators. But have had good success with the Ozium brand of air cleaner sprays. They come in small aluminum aerosol cans. I've also used a specific odor neutrilizer/mold and scent killer spray that was made specifically for spraying into the a/c air ducts. I can't remember the name but it worked great for removing the musty smell of our old '93 Ford Tempo a/c ducts.
Thanks for the info, fellas. I went ahead and ordered an Ozn-JR for $77. Hopefully it will do the trick. It seemed like the middle ground when looking at ozone machines.
I had cleaned the plastic and carpet with Bissel Carpet Foam, ArmorAll Upholstery cleaner, and Simple Green, yet the smell would not come out.
The Ozn-Jr runs in 10 minute on/off cycles. I gave it 11 hours of "on" time (5 1/2 hours actual treatment time). The truck still smells. I took the plastic piece out of the truck and will check if the smell is still as strong in the morning. That way, I'll know whether or not I need to go after the carpet with more cleaner.
Looks like I'm at a last resort with this issue. I'm going to have to replace the plastic trim (black piece near the rear wall that holds the lower rear seat portion up) and probably cut that part of the carpet out. At least it's under the seat and out of sight. The piece of trim stinks the worst, so I shouldn't have to remove too much carpet.
My wife says I can get rid of odors.....but cause others
