I bought the truck new, have put 4 clutches in this truck! Seems like every 40,000 miles I have to have a clutch put in by the Ford dealer. The truck has not been drove or worked hard, has only 150,000 miles on it. It's a 5 speed and I always start off in low gear. Now if I drive a tank of fuel out about 500 mile and press the clutch pedal in it does not release , I have to wait till it cools off to drive again. I changed the master and slave cylinders, I don't know if it has helped I am afraid to go to far. When the truck is off and you rock it back and forth, it sounds like springs rattling on the inside. What I would like to know is,
what can I do to keep from putting a clutch in it every 40k miles. Is this a factory defect or a bunch of DA mechanics.
sounds like they may have not got all the air out of the slave and master cyls if its an external slave cyl bleeding the air aout is not that difficult if its internal most of them i have seen the bleeder screw is on top of the trans big pain to bleed also you may want to check all the connections and make sure there arent an leaks allowing air to get in or fluid out
Do you still have the factory dual mass flywheel? It almost sounds like you do if you're hearing springs rattling. Pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the bellhousing and look at your flywheel. The dual mass will look like two pieces. These are known for being junk and coming apart. I'm not sure how that could cause it to not release though. Do a searh in the Powerstroke forum and you'll find more info on it.
