10" vs 11" clutches?
Well its almost that time again: clutch job time. Ive been tossing around the idea of putting an 11" clutch in instead of another 10" that Im running now. Ive been wondering what are the pros and cons of the two. Itd be going on a 302 with an 164 tooth flywheel with the hydrolic clutch. I was planing on either resurfacing the current flywheel or buying a new one with this next clutch job.
I go through clutches like crazy. Instead of a clutch lasting a normal amount of time Im having to replace clutches every 2-3 years or so and I hardly put 5000 miles a year on the truck. So I was thinking that if I go with an 11" clutch, thats bigger, that it would give it more surface area to grip so in theory a clutch would last longer?

I'm not sure that the size of the clutch will help with life. It sounds like there is some other issue going on if you are only getting 10-15000 miles out of a clutch. I have 190,000 on the original clutch in my truck, and that is with a decent amount of towing mixed in.
You may be able to install an 11" clutch using your current flywheel. I've read that the flywheels are drilled to accept both sizes. Again, not sure if this will help with clutch life.

Well now that I think about it I do have 3.08 gears which I dont particularly care for and I do 90% city driving so maybe thats part of the reason why I go through clutches like mad, all that stop and go stuff. And yes the 164 tooth flywheels (at least mine) is drilled for a bigger clutch. Maybe gears are part of the issue.
