6.9L Going Into Storage

I"m about to rip out a 6.9L and put it on a pallet to set in the back of the garage or the shed or something... I'm just trying to get some opinions on what I could do to keep the internals in good shape... particularly the coolant passages, as this diesel to my knowledge has never been treated with sca/dca additive... Should I run some coolant flush through and then maybe put the right antifreeze in and run it for a little while to coat the insides before I drain it, or should I just say F it and drain it and put it right on a pallet? Any other ideas? thanks guys

Spray the cylinders with something that will oil the cylinders good and let it be. I have used outboard boat motor cyl "fog".

...and turn over the engine by hand a few times after fogging it.

Make sure you strap it on good, dont want that big hoss falling over and damaging it, something else, or someone's toes...

SCAs provide extra protection when the engine is running, but for storage, I would just drain it and wrap it up real good.

maybe like 10-20 years

I'm not sure if David85 has me convinced, I think I'd rather know for sure that when it comes time to use this motor again the coolant passages aren't all rotted out inside

For tha long term. I would seal all areas where air/moisture could get into engine. Best thing would be a shrink wrap for the whole engine.

a good heavy weight oil on all the surfaces and cover with a breathable cover. Dont shrinkwrap it. If you do, when the block sweats from the air warming up, it will condensate under the wrap and then there will be nothing but a haven for rust.
