Finally got around to putting in even some more gauges from Diesel Manor. Put in a Water Temp, Volt, Engine oil temp.(alredy got the other in). Put the sensor in to the port on the filter housing as suggest by people on here.Took it out for a drive. At highway speed (60--65) with no load, cruise control set. outside temp. was 70. Temp got up to 205 to 210 degrees and did not come down to only 200 degrees at idle after 10 minutes. My question is: Is this the normal temp.? It seems rather high to me. I am worried about towing my 5th wheel in hot weather if this temp. is already high. What is everyone else running? Is there a better place to get a reading?
Thanks for the help
That temperature is exactly what you want to have.
Cold engine oil gets dirty a lot faster than oil that is just under the boiling point of water.
Hot oil boils off any condensation, etc and stays cleaner for a longer period of time.
Doesn't that seem high for no load. In the summer heat with the 11000 lb. 5th wheel being pulled through the mountains, it seems that temp could get pretty high. Anybody else had some temp readings while pulling?
Thanks
when towing my edge evo II says my oil temps stay aroudn 220 most the time. don't ever really get any hotter that. I have heard that around that range is where is good to run.
Welll i work at a Mack Volvo truck dealer ship as the shop foreman. We see oil temps 230-245 F all the time. The oil today can with stand so much more heat with out break down. I run 200-210 most of the time climbs to 225 when towing. Took an oil sample with 180,000 miles. no major issues with the oil. Had 6500 miles on oil changes.
