I recently picked up a 73 Ford Truck. It had a recent rebuilt 390 Engine. I must say, it runs EXCELLENT. However, after browsing hundreds of articles here on casting numbers for the heads and blocks, I seem to be having a little trouble identifying mine. I have C7AE-A on my right head and C8AE-H on my left head. I am guessing they are 1967 and 1968...But the big question is under my oil filter. I have 7A23....huh? Is this right? I see what looks like screw heads stamped into the block then 7A23. I also see a large "V" above it on the block. I am also very surprised on how good it runs. Don't I have a mismatch on my heads as far as valve sizes etc?
Yeah it’s a definite mismatch but it won’t kill you. Drive it around all you like until you’re ready to spend some money on it. Then maybe get another C8AE head or a pair of D2TE’s.
