I fully welded the fenders and side panels, grinded and then hand sanded using a long socket wraped with sandpaper!

I have several things I've done to my truck that I'm kinda proud of. Since there isn't alot of aftermarket parts available for my Caddy engine I made my own valve covers by combining some new ones with some old ones;
I still need to paint them but you can get the idea.
I also made my own instrument cluster;

I made my own tailgate as well, and custom fabricated some hiddens tailgate latches;

I also did quite a bit of work on the bed itself, including fabricating my own rear sill;

Man, these old truck are fun, frustrating...but fun

Your running board mods are terrific. I may steal some of you plans to use on my truck. I think I am going to use square exhaust tips (nascar boom tube type) but same principal. This has potential to be a great thread!!
e william, your fenders look AWESOME!!! and Randy Jack, I love them bedsides!! I was already plannin on makin my bedsides one piece, and now I am for sure!! I'm not goin to a double wall, but I am goin to make the bedside 1piece all the way to the runnin board like you did that's too COOL!! I also want to remove the drip rail. I dont know how to post pictures, but like bobbyt, I did rework some valve covers, check them out in my gallery, also a mistake in the beginning, I had a 1972 model bed, worked out for my best. At least I think so, on the later models, the fenders bolted on at a higher level, so it makes the truck have a more aggressive lookin rake.I also extended my runin boards to go under the rear fenders, and I have 3 brackets on each runnin board. That way you can go over a speed bump and not rip the fenders apart. The runnin boards are free floating. I goofed up and added an extra cowl vent in the beginning, on the driver's side, instead of removing the pass side one?(What a dummy) on top of all that I got the driver's side one crooked!!
In a few years, I'm goin to repaint it and make some changes. So go ahead and post more, I promise not to steal all your good ideas
( Just the ones I like) LOLLater and GOD bless
1. always a fan of 49-50 merc tail lights low in the rear fenders.
2. radiused upper door corners on 56
3. filled cab seams
4. tucked bumpers
5. big back glass conversion
6. older curvy bed parts ie: pockets and script gate
7. shaved drips

You guys (and gals) have some real talent>
Randy, I did my boards the same as you using 3" oval Rousch tips and I made pollished aluminum strips for the raised lines.
Man, this IS gonna be a "kick-_ _ _" thread !

keep the pictures coming.
i'm keeping my body/exterior mostly stock, so all my modifications are drivetrain/suspension related.
i've narrowed a Sterling 10.25 and converting it to disc brakes and an airbags/4-link rear setup.
i'm converting my F-3 to 4x4 using a dual transfercase i built using a Ford Dana 20 and GM NP203 for a 4.92 combined low range.

Front axle is a Dana 60 i narrow about 8" and installed a home made hydraulic assist steering.
