Has anyone changed out their computerized distributor for an earlier one so you dont have to worry about all the sensors? If so how did it work out for you.Nothing wrong with mine just wandering. I have a 90 EB bronc. with 302. everything works great even the cruise. just has dull paint but workin on that and lift.
Are you talking about going to carb and everything? If so it is against the law to retrofit a emission controlled vehicle (that's federal law) But it can and has been done!! I think it is a $ 1700.00 fine just for removing the cats!!! There is no real reason to ditch the computer equipment there are many benefits to it, especially if you are keeping any mods reasonable it is good up to about 400hp. Unless you are worried about EMP from a nuclear strike or something??
Dont have emission test in south carolina. taken cats off of every vehicle iv owned and dont regret. no reason other than for a little extra sound. Grandfather is 1 of the best mech. i know and im taking it to him for help just thought id ask if any1 here had done the same. Pop changed his over on his 80s model ramcharger because he was tired of messin with the sensors and i would like 2 do the same b4 it even has the chance to start/ but thanks for the post. And no not planning on going carb
Now is the time to start learning about computer controls, cars are only getting more tech involved, and it is really not that hard of a thing to diagnose and work on!! $100. code reader and the computer tells you what is wrong with itself, I myself don't own a code reader since sensors are just simple circuits that talk to the computer, I f you know basic electric design, then you can diagnose what a bad signal from the type of sensor that you are looking at is!! Emissions are federal if DOT pulls you over
you are screwed I am just warning you!! We don't have inspections here either but when you sell a vehicle here you sign a paper that says you didn't screw with the emissions and it is in working order, If someone calls you on it, Look out!!!
I understand what ur sayin blue and only reason i want to do it is because i do not want to spend the money on the sensors when they do go bad. Just another hassle. just want a simple design for my toy. Computers do not bother me and I have a degree in electrical so working on and diagnosing is not a problem. Im sure some1 else has done this and just wanted to know how it was working out for them. And I would never sell a vehicle that i do not deem safe or illigal. I have a 94 mustang gt with no airbags that i will never get rid of due to that fact.(plus i love it) but i do appreciate what your telling me. But you could help me out with telling me how to putt a sig on my post. looked all over and cant find where to post it. thanks
Go to user cp it is on the left hand side on the top! The fuel injection gets it's cues from the tfi module so you are going to have to figure a way around that, Which would be to change out the manifold and go carb!!! All the sensors that you are worried about are to control fuel delivery not spark!! Tps,hego, map, knocksensor,IAT just to name a few are all fuel related and are the biggies that go out!!! There is no reason to switch it over. My truck has over 300,000 miles and it is fuel injected with alot of the sensors probably original or the guy who had it before me took it to the dealership because they all had ford on them or do!!! If you wanted a carbed and points truck you should have gotten a pre 86 bronco!! I'm not trying to be a D!ckhead just trying to help!! If you do attempt it let us know how it goes either the complete swap or just the dizzy!!!
