Please Help Indentify An Engine

I was bequeathed an old 1976 24' Winner Flybridge Fishing Boat. I have no kind of records or references for any equipment on board. I am going to restore, rebuild and refit the boat and am starting with the engine. I do not know if it is the original engine, but my gut says yes. Winner Boat Co. is long gone and I have no way to research thier records.

I have not been able to find any numbers on the block itself yet, due to deterioration of marine use.

I believe it is a 351 W, because there is a firing order cast on the intake that reads 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. There is also a casted number D5JE-9425-FA on the intake manifold.

The valve covers (6 bolt) have been removed and I have found casting numbers 9H14 and the letters WCP and a very large T all by itself.

This is where I am at now. I am going to go outside and remove carb, intake m. and maybe heads to try to find more numbers.

Can anyone help me identify/ confirm 351W and what year (for part ordering)?
Thank you guys so much for your time and effort,
Ken

If it is a 351W the casting number will be on the passenger's side rear above the starter.

Hello,

Sorry for delay. Engine is in the boat still, can't crawl under and look like a truck. Pulled starter and used mirrors. Came up with D9AE-6015-ED-16.
I have not been able to find D9AE on any charts yet, maybe because it is marine, if anyone can help me find info to identify/ confirm 351W and year, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all,
Ken

You've either got a 351W or a 302. Measure the width of the intake manifold. Also see how far above the block at the distributor hole the wall under the intake extends. If it's nearly even, it's a 302, if it extends up about an inch, it's a 351.

It's a 351W. D5JE-9425-FA indicates a 1975 designed, industrial/marine manifold. The manifold is the same design as the car 1969/70 unit except it may use four less attaching bolts (the casting has provision for them, but they may not be drilled).
Here's a link to images of this manifold, all nicely chemically cleaned and powder coated:

http://www.mustangtek.com/Intake/D5JE-9425-FA_000.html

The 9H14 is a date code, 9 indicates 1969 or 1979 or 1989 or 1999, H14 indicates August 14th.

I believe WCP means Windsor Casting Products or similar.

Look for a date code on the intake manifold, just before the casting number. Note that on the image link it is 5J12. Does your intake manifold have 12 or 16 bolts attaching it to the heads?

N.B.: Ford casting numbers usually differ from part numbers, so it's important not to confuse the terms.

Are you rebuilding it? If you are taking it out completely have the block sprayed inside and out with rustoleum!!!! A good coating of cold galvanizing paint on the outside looks cool in a boat or you could put color paint over that if you don't like the silver!! Especially triple coat your oil pan with cold galvanizing paint, adding extra zinc anodes doesn't hurt either!!! Do you have a water to water heat exchanger or is it an open system? If you are planning on keeping this boat invest heavily in the zinc many people overlook their anodes, you have to scrape them regularly to keep them shiny or they are not working!! Put a double water seperator on that puppy too!! as well as running gas line dryer every now and then!!!

Guys,

I finally pulled the motor out of the boat and started to break it down. The wall under the intake manifold is about an inch higher near the distributer hole.

Water enters in through a neck in the intake manifold.

Am convinced it is 351W.

Any confirmations?

PS, just noticed a "351" casted in the gallery between the lifters. Could it be that simple?
