Hey, Need help with block casting number, Trying to figure out if what I have is a 302 or 351. The block casting number is D80E-6015-E3A with date code = 8F27, also has near casting number on a tab a large 79, also has a sideways 27 in same area.
I pulled what I thought was a 302 motor from a 1970 F100 Ranger to use in my 76 Bronco, been having issue with getting it to fire up. Also if it is a 351, I used my original edelbrock alum intake manifold on this motor, I'm thinking if the block is indeed a 351, then my intake could be an issue as well as the firing order. Any help appreciated.
numbers dummy @ the members list in the blue horizontal line near top of this page (if no 1 comes along shortly). He's great!
Welcome to the forum, this site (altho not real active). We need more Bronks!

Again, welcome, keep talkin...
Deck height(center of crank to top of deck) is a little more than an inch taller on the 351. Also distance between heads is about two inches(?) wider on a 351. I think you would have ran into problems putting it in as it's not a drop in replacement. Your 302 distributor will not fit in a 351, it's too small. Hope that helps a bit.
As gfw1985 eluded to, the 351 intake is wider than the 302 intake, so you can't swap the two. If your intake fit, it's not a 351. Should be a 302 or maybe a 289 (not likely in your situation). I'd double check the firing order & then make sure the plug wires are correct.
D8OE-6015-E3A = 1978 bare block casting number. But, there's no way to cross reference casting numbers to Ford part numbers, because they are foundry marks.
The engine could be either a 302 or 351W (both have 6 valve cover bolt holes per side). 351M/400, 460's use different block casting numbers than D8OE.
